What is wrong with this guy? He was rude, dismissive, alluding to ridiculous assumptions, judgmental and just uncomfortable to be around. He had our kids leave with almost no medical opinion. Why is he still practicing if he is so miserable? Just awful to be around.
We switched from NorthShore to Northwestern specifically for Dr. Lechman. I read great reviews and our pediatrician left NorthShore. I figured why not try another medical group; especially since Northwestern is supposed to be top tier. On our first visit, we waited in the room for 45 minutes. When he finally arrived, he didn’t apologize or thank us for waiting so long. He was very sarcastic and almost dismissive. It was very off putting for a first visit. We ended up switching back to NorthShore.
This Northwestern pediatrics office is awful! The attending doctor that saw my son after birth misdiagnosed him with a condition that delayed him getting a circumcision (and costing us more money). Then the doctor during our first office visit sent our son to the ER and an unnecessary NICU stay for three days. Lastly, our last visit where we finally saw the doctor we were referred to (Lechman) was terrible. Dr. Lechman kept making cutting comments during my visit and was extremely rushed. I found him very unfriendly.
He has cared for my four children and has always been a top-notch doctor. When stuff goes bad he does get serious and he will give you his honest advice & care. He is really good with giving a diagnosis and I can’t say that for the other pediatricians that I’ve met when he hasn’t been in. My children are all adults now and they still wish that Dr. Lechman was their doctor.
He’s probably competent. He cared for our son for 4 years and nothing went seriously wrong. But avoid him. It’s not just his unpleasant manner, you can call “no-nonsense,” “gruff,” or “rude” depending on your spin. Rather, it is his unsolicited personal judgments. We stopped going to him because when he asked about educational plans, and we said we were still deciding, he responded with a condescending, judgmental sneer that he hoped at least we were not going to home school. This was grossly offensive and beyond the pale of... read more
Our two daughters (5 and 2 yrs) are patients of Dr Lechman. He is fantastic and I highly recommend him! He was extremely reassuring when we had our first child and were “new, nervous parents.” And he was the brilliant scientist we needed when our second daughter was born a preemie and initially had many challenges. His diagnosis, treatment plan & overall knowledge was unwaveringly spot on. He guided our daughter through some rough times with the proper care. She’s now thriving. He’s the best!
Very practical, knowledgeable doctor that will "tell it like it is" and give parents a good sense of what works and what doesn't, what is worth worrying about, and the fact there is no one size fits all answer to raising a baby. Less touchy feely than some pediatricians, but we personally love his practical (even wryly funny) bedside manner and trust him implicitly with our son.
We have 3 children that have seen Dr. Lechman throughout the years, and for 17 years he has been our pediatrician. Dr. Lechman is a no non-sense Doctor that is straightforward with his thoughts when asked. I have read that he may come off as "snobby," but I have found him to be really nice. Perhaps people caught him on a bad day. In in 17 years and likely 100 interactions, he has been courteous, thoughtful and informative. Great Doctor and highly recommended.
Rude and discourteous to me & when looking over my child when we were in the hospital, after the Northwestern Hospital pediatricians punted us over to the pediatricians from my chosen pediatric office. Unfortunately, he was the one from the practice who had hospital duty for the day. He was rude and rushed and was more worried about himself and his schedule than caring for my son when there were a slew of doctors and nurses coming in and out of our room to see us before we left the hospital.
