Fantastic! – Without question one of the better dining experiences of recent memory. The service here was impeccable - really impressive. The food was outstanding, everybody's apps and entrees were delicious (spicy duck meatballs - fantastic). I didn't watch Top Chef, but this guy is obviously really talented. I will definitely go back - have to try some different dishes off the menu.
Fabulous new gem! – I had the pleasure of trying out this wonderful new addition to the West Village last night! The decor is understated and comfortable and the bathrooms are beautiful. Now to the most important part: food and service. The menu highlights seasonal ingredients to great success! Standout dishes included the faro risotto (absolutely melts in your mouth), roast duckling and the heirloom tomato/fontina strudel! Even the olive oil served with the bread was phenomenal. Great wine list as well, with selections desi... read more
Citysearch Editorial Review – "Top Chef" fans hoping for a glimpse of the show's first victor crowd the small modest dining room, trimmed in orange, beige and brown. Circular tangerine banquettes with shaded lamps are favorite nooks for groups, while intimacy-seeking diners fancy the polished zebrawood tables in back. Non-starstruck neighborhood folks mill about the walnut bar. Chef Harold Dieterle proves he's no flash in the pan through exquisite, versatile cooking. Soft, spicy duck meatballs, topped with a quail egg, show ... read more
Great location; great food. – Executive Chef and owner: Harold Dieterle (winner of television's Top Chef season one) Situated in the West Village and just off of one of the busier shopping streets in this area, Perilla is a little oasis of subdued lights and casual attire but with haute cuisine. The restaurant itself is narrow and long. Stainless steel lamp fixtures seem a little odd jutting from the wall and the tables of blond wood with dark tree-ring vertical bands felt too pedestrian for the high-end food choices. Best New Restaurant – Awesome all the way around. Great service, great food, great wine list, fun atmosphere. The black cod was amazing and perfect for a summer evening. Love the strawberry dessert. Our server was friendly but not over-bearing, and knew her stuff. Cant wait to return.
Great Food, Cute and Quaint Place.. but Lacking Service – First off, Perilla is a beautiful quaint establishment. The food was delightful? fresh, simple and warm. We started off with the spicy duck meatballs (tasty), crab salad (refreshing) and green salad (simple and clean). For entrees, we had the chicken, fish and hanger steak.... all quite yummy. Desserts ended the meal on a sweet note. The donuts and melon sorbet were fabulous. Everyone?s mouths and tummies were smiles by night?s end. Unfortunately the service we receiv... read more
Believe the hype! – so glad i gave this place a try! after all the Top Chef mentioning/hype i was wary, but this is straight up - a good place to eat. the food's great, the service is great, the room is comfy and the people are welcoming (and the block is adorable, like a mini oasis btwn the crowds of West 4th & Bleeker). I had the meatballs, the skate and the doughnuts - all delightful. Keep up the good work - can't wait to come back!
This restaurant is FABULOUS! – Everything we ate was exceptional! The best halibut I ever had! It was a special that night and it was just delicious. The yellowtail appetizer was sensational!! The food has really clean flavors and is very light, but appetizing. Perfect for the summer. Harold is a wonderful chef! This was one of the best restaurants I have ever been to. We also got to see Harold walk through the restaurant.
exciting cooking/welcoming environment! – The cod was delicious, the beef carpaccio was outstanding the strawberry dessert was fresh and light and wonderfully sweet - all around excellent food - well thought out and interesting, but not fussy. great neighborhood joint that really appears to be trying to fit into the 'hood without sacrificing it's ambition. and the service is friendly and helpful. and that traminer/muller thurgau blend they pour by the glass is addictive (so's the house cocktail "the perilla 75" - made with s... read more
