Elegant Restaurant, comfortable staff, neighborhood spot – Having seen the 2nd season of Top Chef, I saw the little story on season 1 winner Harrold. The restaurant is very cozy, nice, with comfortable atmosphere and not too pretencious. Me and my girl arrived at 7:45 and were seated immediately to a table in the center of the restaurant. We were immediately informed about specials and asked if we wanted a drink while we reviewed the menu. Everything looked very interesting and kind of put us in a bind since we didn't know w... read more

Casual Elegance. – The unassuming restaurant front can be easily missed if you're just walking by, but inside, the dining experience at Perilla astounds. The restaurant itself seems to glow and offers a warm and inviting ambiance. Oversized lamps hover over tables and simple arrangements of white flowers speckle the restaurant. "Simple" seems to be the take on the dining space and it works well. The beautiful wood of the dining tables is worth noting - a beautiful grain I had never seen before. The soundtrack to the restaura... read more

Gourmet comfort food – Do not go to Perilla expecting to be blown away. It's not that kind of place. It is, however, a comfortable, attractive little neighborhood restaurant with lots of really good comfort food -- from the spicy duck meatballs, the truffle ravioli, the Colorado lamb, the faro risotto, and the creamed corn. Everything was delicious, but nothing was eye-opening (although I could eat a vat of that risotto any day of the week), considering the chef's TC credentials. I hoped the much talked about desserts would ... read more

OK. Not really anything special. – I went here with a couple of friends for dinner and felt that the overall experience was OK but not spectacular. The location is great, however, the food was pretty mediocre. We ordered a few appetizers (duck meatballs, shrimp salad special and crab salad) and the entire party felt that the dishes were ok but not flavorful enough. Two people from our party (myself included) ordered the steak and found it pretty tough and they didn't even provide a steak knife. The greens and red onion on th... read more

I have now dined at Perilla twice and each time felt the delight you feel when everything is delicious. I watched Harold Dieterle win the first season of Top Chef and noted when he opened the restaurant and deliberately did not go for two or three months until things had settled down. The service is excellent and not intrusive and the servers know what they are talking about and will go off and check if you ask a question they cannot answer. The food is excellent,. For appetizers: the spicy duck meatballs live up to their re... read more

Underwhelmed.... – I was so excited to go to Perilla - the menu sounded interesting and of course, having watched Top Chef, I was curious to try the food of one of the contestants. From the minute I walked in the door, I caught attitude from the hostess. I was ten minutes late for my reservation and the other three members of my party hadn't arrived either. I had called ahead to explain that we were running late, but that apparently didn't go over well with the hostess. I said I could sit right away and would be happy to ord... read more

Doesn't Get Any Better Than This!! Absolute Winner!! – Amazing! This basically sums up my whole experience at Perilla. Not like I wasn't expecting a tasty meal from the Top Chef winner, but he blew my expectations out of the water. The Spicy Duck Meatballs was flavorful with just the right blend of ingredients and perfect pairing with the gnocchi and quail egg. The Skate Wing was cooked just right holding enough of the flavor and texture. Side dishes like risotto and cream of corn completes the heavenly meal. The Lemon fille... read more

Fantastic! – Without question one of the better dining experiences of recent memory. The service here was impeccable - really impressive. The food was outstanding, everybody's apps and entrees were delicious (spicy duck meatballs - fantastic). I didn't watch Top Chef, but this guy is obviously really talented. I will definitely go back - have to try some different dishes off the menu.

Fabulous new gem! – I had the pleasure of trying out this wonderful new addition to the West Village last night! The decor is understated and comfortable and the bathrooms are beautiful. Now to the most important part: food and service. The menu highlights seasonal ingredients to great success! Standout dishes included the faro risotto (absolutely melts in your mouth), roast duckling and the heirloom tomato/fontina strudel! Even the olive oil served with the bread was phenomenal. Great wine list as well, with selections desi... read more
