Named for its Pearl District locale, Pearl Bakery was established in 1997. The friendly, young women behind the counter serve up some of the best cups of coffee in Portland. The pastries and sandwiches are exquisite, as are the now famous Parisian-style breads. For lunch, try the marinated eggplant sandwich on ciabatta bread. The brioche or croissant is standard fare for the breakfast crowd. Take a loaf of olive bread with you to snack on as you tour Powell's Books one block away.

Can't go wrong with any selection, but try the Gibassier here, absolutely delicious!!
This gem is by far the best little spot in Portland. We had coffee and a pastry every morning during our stay and everything was delicious. I would have loved to stay longer just to be able to go here every morning and enjoy relaxing over a cup of coffee.
I live 400 miles from Portland but drive here frequently. Friends kid me that I'm just making the trip for a gibassier and latte.
