Bland and Boring, but Easy to Sit on a Friday Night – We stumbled in here on a Friday night since it was the only place in the area where we could get a table with no problem (in fact it was mostly empty). From the beginning, the service was friendly and attentive. The pitcher of margaritas was better than most house drinks I've had, and the ceviche was terrific. But the guacamole was undersalted and underseasoned, just like all of our entrees. Enchiladas had no flavor at all. For the price, I would have expected the chef to... read more

So-so Mex in Soho – Nice place but, disappointing. We had heard this is one of the best in the city. Sangria we started with was great! Nice flavor, silky texture and, a bit of a kick! From there it went to guacamole. Very creamy, subtle taste at first but, ultimately, as the tasting moved on, flat. Not salty, not spicy, not flavorful. Just flat! Main courses had a little more flair; the butternut squash chille rellenos was the best of the lot. Wanted something really chocolate-y for dessert. Was told by the waitress that th... read more

Great Atmosphere - Fab Food – We enjoyed a great meal here last week. Both bar and wait staff could not have been more helpful and attentive. Our waitress talked us through the menu and then made some good recommendations. We decided to go with her choices and were very pleased that we did. The Guacamole was really fresh and tasty, as was the Tortilla Soup. A hint of heat made it a delicious appetizer for a cold night!. My boyfriend had the Duck Enchiladas and I had the steak. Both were excellent. The steak was cooked to per... read more

Great Value for Lunch! – The food here is fresh and inviting. Not like the average Mexican restaurant. The lunch menu is a very good value for quality food. I especially enjoyed the guacamole to start. The atmosphere is lively and bright at lunch.

A Magnificent Mini-Trip to Mexico Just By Dining at Beautiful Papatzul in SOHO – Walking through the doors of Papatzul is literally like taking a mini-trip to Mexico. Everything from the beautiful decor, the ambiance of the candle lit trees of life, the authentic photos of Mexico City that surround you as you slowly sip your tequila or the best margaritas in town, the music that makes you want to move to the rhythm, the commanding masks hung along the walls and absolutely decadent and delicious food. The entire experience wa... read more

Andrea Strong is Wrong – We went last night, having read Andrea Strong's glowing review and I am speechless. The food was basically unseasoned, the restaurant understaffed and the decor hardly worth mentioning. We had guacamole and sopes, both of which needed salt. The chips were obviously not homemade and too thick. The trio of quesadillas included one that was vile and two that were just okay. The duck enchilladas were not good - the meat seemed old - and we couldn't finish them. We skipped dessert. The waitress was nice a... read more

Great new Mexican restaurant in SoHo – I, like npandela above, went last night with my wife after reading Andrea Strong's review about Papatzul. My wife and I, unlike npandela who had an awful experience last night, had a great time enjoying the simple, unpretentious decor and great food. We decided to start with the Ensalada de Palmito, which served as the perfect appetizer given its simple presentation and subtle citric flavors. My wife had the Costillas de Cordero, which came with a sauce to-die-for. It was a little smoky... read more

The best food, the best tequila and the best staff – If you want to have a great time along with great food and the best margaritas in the city PAPATZUL is the place to do that!!! You won't find burritos or fajitas on the menu but you will find Guacamole, Ceviche and Duck Enchiladas that will make you want more! Tequila selection is incredible (they have more than 40 to choose from) and even if you are not a fan of tequila you can always take a look at their wine list (which is excellent) and find a wine (I recommend Juan Gi... read more

The best Guacamole in the world!!! – I'm not exaggerating, Guacamole at Papatzul is so delicious that me and my boyfriend ordered three (and it's pretty big) when we went there first time!!! Everything about that place is amazing: food, margaritas and the staff. But what really makes it spacial is the space. It is so beautiful that once you sit down you feel like staying there forever. Either going on a date or with a bunch of friends Papatzul is THE PLACE.
