I've Had Better – I went to the Palm expecting great food and great atmosphere, but my expectations were a little high. The place is very small, crowded, and noisy. As for the food, the appetizers were excellent--Shrimp Bruno (a house specialty) and fried calamari. I had the legendary porterhouse, medium-rare, and was very underwhelmed. The service was top notch and the manager even comped our dessert since it was our first time dining at the Palm. That's The Whole Cow... – An elegant version of a steakhouse. The steaks are aged beef of the best quality, and it will take up your entire plate. The service was good, and the wine selection was adequate. It's not cheap, but it's worth it.
Place is awful – I am from new york and have eaten at Peter Lugers, The Palm, The Palm Two, etc. This place is terrible. The food is just above average, wait staff is rude. you are lucky if you get seated within an hour of your reservation & the prices are High. It is however good for celebrity watching. They are also non-responsive to customer complaints. I wrote them a letter about a year ago complaing about the food and service. I am still waiting for an answer. Holds Its Own – Having moved from NYC to LA recently, I can say that I've had the chance to enjoy some phenomenal steakhouses. From Peter Lugar, Sparks, Del Frisco's (and Abe & Louie's in Boston), there are quite a few places that demonstrate their mastery of steak. My novice survey of the LA steak scene tell me that the Palm is one of the best, certainly in LA.
