Oxford Lumber Company, Incorporated, a locally owned retail outlet for hardware, lumber and building materials was founded in 1958 by Charles W. Newman. Mr. Newman moved to Piedmont, Alabama from Kentucky and then to Oxford in 1958. He took his savings and began a lumber and building materials business at 4th and Barry Street in Oxford.
