Ownwell company took control of our appeal which we DID NOT consent to. They are criminals. they WITHOUT our consent accepted the revaluation value, we didn't know anything about them and we never heired them to represent us and appeals for us, we never asked them to help us or be our agent. We never know anything about them! And when the day of our hearing came, we were then notified that we were no longer able to appeal the property tax because the company WITHOUT our consent accepted the revaluation value. Now we file com... read more

Business response:

Ownwell does not file or complete protests without signed authorization from the property owner. The Appraisal District would not allow us to do this without this authorization. We also keep our customers updated by email regarding the status of the protests we are working on and have filed, and provide an opportunity to cancel if you do not wish for us to proceed. I am going to reach out to you privately regarding the account that was set up with Ownwell for you.

Very satisfied with the results and solution provided by Ownwell. I found their resolution very favorable and due to past experiences of attempting to challenge my taxes, this is the first time I came out ahead.

Business response:

Thank you for the 5-star rating. We are thrilled that we were able to help you this year. We look forward to continuing to work with you.

The protest yielded minimum results and even though I submitted numerous documents to illustrate the appraisal of my home they still have my square footage and bed/ bath data mislabeled on the portal. I'm not sure of the value they bring. I will be filing myself. I better not get charged for Ownwell services I have notified I would not like to use. I will update my review if I see a charge or request.

This is my first home and I was uncertain about how to get my taxes lowered so I responded to and email from this company ( was really just scouting around their web site gathering information) then before I know it Im signed up for their services) once i realized what i had done I requested to cancel my request. I went to the county tax office in person filled out and filed for exemptions myself and found out I was due a hefty refund for overpaying the previous year. Then later I get a check in the mail for half of my overp... read more

Business response:

While Ownwell does help our customers who sign up to file for homestead exemptions on their property, any refunds that result from the application of this exemption are not sent to Ownwell. They are sent to the person who pays the property tax; this could be you, or if your taxes are paid through your mortgage company, the refund is sometimes sent to the mortgage company. This is determined by the County Tax Assessor and not Ownwell. If Ownwell files an exemption for you, and you do receive a refund, then we do send an invoic... read more

Ownwell is a total scam. Stay away from them. If there were a legitimate business they would have no need to send out very deceptive letters to sucker home owners. Just like scamsters do.They do not put a return address. Instead they say "Travis County Deadline" making it appear like it is from the County. The precede the recipient's address with: "Concerning Your 2025 Property Tax Notice". Another attempt to con home owners and make it look legit.Ask yourself, do you really want to do any business with a shady company like ... read more

Business response:

Our marketing is in no way an attempt to mislead our customers into thinking that our mailer is from the Appraisal District. We do want them to be aware of their right to protest the value for their property and the deadline for them to do so if they choose. This is why our letters have the appraisal district the property is associated with and the filing deadline in bold print for them to be aware.

They seem to believe theyre entitled to do whatever they want with your property year after year after you sign the user agreement. They refused to withdraw a protest they had filed without my knowledge. ******** bad customer service experience.

Ownwell has operated as an absolute scam regarding my property! They were hired ONCE to protest taxes. We told them we were not going to have them do it the next year. We received a bill from Ownwell, they claimed OWNWELL had submitted a Homestead application on my property and were requesting payment. Ownwell ABSOLUTELY DID NOT FILE THE EXEMPTION! I filed it myself! Took weeks of arguing with them and back and forth, even after I sent them the proof that I had filed (emails to the county and hand filled out Homestead applic... read more

Business response:

We apologize for the experience you have had with us. Since it is the Texas property tax season we are experiencing higher than normal call and email volume. This is causing extended hold times and delay in our responding to emails.Since your property is valued each year by the appraisal district, our service is recurring since we recommend filing an appeal each year. This is why we send automated emails to remind our customers that this is happening and to give them the opportunity to cancel if they choose to do so. I can c... read more

Extremely difficult to cancel services. I emailed Ownwell last year asking them to cancel all future property tax appeals and delete my account. They only canceled for that year, then tried to sneak in another unsolicited appeal the following year without my consent. If you dont check your email regularly, youll be hit with a surprise bill. When I called, I was put on hold for a long time, and even then, it was a hassle to get my account fully deleted. Theres no easy way to cancel onlinethe option is usually greyed out, and t... read more

Business response:

We are very sorry for your experience. When you canceled in 2024 we should have verified with you if you only wanted that year's appeals canceled or future years as well. The deadline to cancel with Ownwell is 2 months before the filing deadline of May 15th, which is why the option to cancel in your account portal is greyed out after March 15.At this time we are exeperiencing higher than normal call volume, so we apologize for the delay you experienced in getting this resolved for 2025 moving forward. Our intention is to pro... read more
