Terrible service & overpriced! – We dined @ Halibuts Friday, 9/21/07. It took over 10 minutes for a wait person to come to our outside table. I actually had to go inside to ask if we were going to be served. They were not busy. We paid $34.00 for two four piece halibut fish & chips plates, a side of slaw, and two canned sodas. No wonder they were @ $800.00 in sales that day. (The Owner & waitress were outside discussing this openly amongst the patrons which I found as a huge turn off.) And, previously I had used my debit car... read more

Good Food but Overpriced – I enjoyed the halibut fish and chips but very overpriced. For $9 I got two very small pieces of fish and not many fries. I left hungry which does speak well of the portions.

Great music! Sorry the food and the service arent. – I have gone to Halibuts over the past couple of years because of the great music and it is non smoking. but what keeps me from coming back more often is the bad service and attitude of the waitresses in the bar and the high cost. $15 for fish and chips ( It is fish and chips for God' sake not lobster), and $6 for a cup of chowder, served in a paper cup, and a small cup at that. Not a big bowl like at Moe's served with hot sour dough bread, just oyster crackers. And if they... read more

For a place that specializes in Fish and Chips they just don't deliver. – I've been on a fish and chips kick lately, so I decided to try this place. I remember reading about it in the Willamette Weekly in their article about trans-fats and how the owner tried switching to a healthier oil, but didn't like the results. Not the best sign, but hey this is fried food. I orderded a full serving of true cod. I wanted the Halibut, but it was $14 or so not including a side of slaw. That is expensive for bar food. The order came in a ... read more

Greasy and overpriced!@ – This was a disappointment for a fish lover. Halibut and Prawns dripping in grease. With fries in a basket for $14 or $15 dollars for 4 halibut and a similar price for a few prawns. Service was like a sleasy tavern....definitely does not go well with the pricing . They have such a limited menu...not a salad on the menu except for some really high fat tasting cole slaw. I hope they can improve. Actually I have had better service in sleazey taverns. Sorry to all the tavern waitresses who really give a ... read more

Good Fish, small portions. – Well, I do think the fish is about the best I ever had, But my last visit was less than perfect. I have been here a few times and the owner is friendly but loud. This visit I got 2 pc fish to go. $9, the gal working the register asked if I would like some chowder. sure I said. What i didn't realize was its $6 for a cup of chowder? That is crazy! Not even the Heathman would charge you $6 for a cup of soup. I get the order home and minimal fires and two small pcs of fish. When I was in before i got... read more

Great Food, Great Atmosphere, and Great Music! – Great food, great atmosphere, and great music! Original Halibut's is a small place so arrive no later than 8:00pm to get a seat in the bar to listen to whoever is playing there that night. The wait staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. Dave Mc Kay is the owner and greets everyone with friendly conversation as well as making sure that each patrons experience is always great.

far too expensive for what you get – i am not hard to please, let's get that straight from the get go. this place is overpriced for the quality of service and somewhat fast food atmosphere. just because you have a bar and live music it doesn't mean it's Jake's. $10 for the large catfish at lunch time is ridiculous and there isn't alot of food for that price as it is. it was good food, but if you are gong to serve catfish fry up some hush puppies for goodness sake. and $6 for a bowl of chowder, which they claim is Soooooo big... read more

Who does he think he is? – It's true. The fish is great. The chowder is excellent. The service is also great and getting better every time I go in! The biggest drawback I've ever found is the owner. A jovial guy, that's for sure. Quite the character. However, on at least two occassions now, my wait to place my order, has been delayed while he not just criticized his workers at the counter, but straight out yelled at and humiliated them in front of the whole resteraunt. It was like a total 180! No matter what theproblem was (... read more
