It was created on Long Island Sound by Parks Commissioner Robert Moses during the 1930s. It is regarded as 'The Riviera' of New York and is divided into 13 sections including the beach, a hexagonal promenade, central pavilion, playgrounds, picnic areas, a parking lot and 26 courts for various ball games. During summer this place is frequented by sunbathers and beach sport enthusiasts.

The North Picnic area is very accessible
Nice place for families . Good park for children
went there this past weekend for "FireWorks" but there weren't any. ☹️ & ended up kicked off the beach rudely by police! then the buses stopped running at 730pm... this place sucks and I now understand why people just skip it to go to City Island instead...
I'm Handicapp (paraplegic) and I was able to enter all the places of business. and the beach was clean and there was a police presence there.

is our beach is so close I love the people and I love the music
too much trash .. on the boardwalk in the sand and more importantly the water!!! what rocket scientist decided to remove trash cans from the sand and place a few on the boardwalk??? bathroom is clean people are great as always
