Oportun is lucky to get the ONE star. I applied for a loan, approved, sent a check that was apparently NOT "recorded". The customer service rep on the phone said the check couldn't be verified. It was from their company, how did a check just slip through? I called and was on hold for a total of 58 minutes. They said another check would be sent out. After a week had gone by, I called to check on the status of the new check being delivered, only to find out that the new check was the exact same # as the unrecorded one that cou... read more

Due to the pandemic I got laid of from my job. While having a opportun loan i tried to explain to them numerous amount of time s my situation. But no help just same old fee s and miss leading information. So on i was offered a settlement for $1980.00. Which at moment i could not offered which expired on may 15. On may 19 i get a call from a supervisor offering me same $1980.00 settlement. The next day i get a txts saying i owe same amount not new settlement of 1980.00. This company has horrible customer service. I went on 5 days with speaking to customer service about a loan that I applied for. Everything they called there was some type of missing information even though I uploaded everything that asked for. No one could give me a correct answer, kept giving me the runaround. Spoke to 8 different agents and 2 different managers the problem was not able to get fixed. Finally got the problem fixed after 5 days of calling, just for them to turn around and say my car reg was expired (Aug 2021)... read more

Oportun presents itself as a Latino-friendly credit company, but they are sharks. On a balance of $0.00, they tried to charge me a 'Minimum Interest Charge' of $1.00, and when I called to dispute it threatened to charge me $35 for not paying it. I was disputing it, not refusing to pay. Whatever. After three failed calls to an invalid number printed on my bill, and three more calls to the number listed on the website, I eventually was able to speak to a representative. I wish I could give them no stars. None, because of so much misleading information that this company pushes on you. Especially someone like me that is working so hard to build my credit, just for some misleading Joe's like these guys that care nothing about damaging it, and not even for anything just some bogus news letter through usps, that they pushed on me at a time when they know people need it and just to find out that you have been doped.

I have called 2 times to be taken off their mailing list. Spoke with Marco ******* on 2/15/2021 and on 1/26/2021. I asked that they stop sending me their loan offers (in Spanish) or in any other language and I received another one today 2/19/2021. It seems the more I call these people the more mail they send. The loan offers are a risk because if it gets into the wrong hands someone could try to obtain a loan in my name.
