I had made an appointment to donate blood today. I went in the morning but I was not allowed to because the staff people said I had visited Peru on February 2019 for two weeks and, because of hypothetical malaria concerns, if I wanted to donate I had to wait 3 years (until February 2022). However, I think that this is is in error because the oneblood FAQ explicitly states that the international malaria deferral policy is only for 3 months, not 3 years. I will say that the staff at the bus are nice. They are not the problem. The problem is the call center. When I called, I was having trouble logging in to my account. The first time I called, I was left on hold for 15 minutes. The second time I called, in mid sentence as I was explaining my situation, the lady hung up on me. Same thing happened again when I called a third time. I will find another place where I can donate blood. I can understand if I was being rude and obnoxious, but I wasn’t, that’s not my demeanor. For the most part my experience while there was good but when I got ready to leave I got so sick. They did not offer juice and cookies and I don't know if that played a part but my blood pressure dropped so bad that I had to practically drag myself in the house. Maybe someone should look into whether that or something else is a factor in the process and inform the patrons so that they're safe when they leave. I'm glad I didn't have an accident or something worse.
