About this business

Seafood lovers rejoice. Oceanique as the name suggests celebrates seafood with innovative and imaginative dishes that transcend average cooking styles. Start with scallops in ginger dressing, perfect and succulent. But don't stop there. Bouillabaisse connoisseurs will relish the seafood-laden stew. The pan-seared salmon is moist and flaky, and the ginger-grilled calamari is cooked to perfection. The two or three non-fish specials daily rival their seafood counterparts. Homemade desserts and an excellent wine list complete th... read more

Excellent presentation and flavor – Restaurant was excellent. The flavors of each dish were well paired, and the in-between courses were both tasty and well balanced. Wine list was extensive, yet well priced. 3 course option was a wonderful way to taste many dishes. Overall, an excellent French restaurant with particular attention to detail.

Fantastic, fresh seafood in a relaxed Evanston setting. – The Scene Oceanique's two rooms are simple and classy, with a draped ceiling and framed French posters on textured maroon-and-gold walls. Great for special occasions, it's also popular with Evanston corporate types. Service is friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. The Food Seafood is the name of the game, but there is a smattering of red-meat dishes. Dishes are lovely and carefully presented: Chunks of chilled Maine lobster are tucked in a parcel of asparagus and shr... read more

Elegant Yet Cozy – Oceanique was all that we had hoped. A nice elegant dining experience that I could squeeze between two appointments. The food was excellent, the wife had the day boat scallops and the seared tuna and I had the chilled Maine lobster and Bouillabaisse Oceanique both which were very well seasoned and quite enjoyable. The service was... well lets just say not overbearing. This is not the place for you if you are looking for a lot of attention but the service is efficient.

Great food, forgettable desserts – Romantic, lively, approachable yet elegant. The appetizers and entrees are fresh, interesting as culinary art goes, and original. The wine list is extensive. During the entrees, we were thinking of comparisons to Everest. But the cappucino (or should I say Illy coffee) and the non-descript desserts put that comparison to rest. Still, the tender buttery salmon makes it worth a second visit. The rest of the seafood is pretty good too.

Average – This place is not too exciting because its out in Evanston, not really downtown chicago (30 miles away). I thought the filet mignon was pretty good but the service was not very attentive and the desserts we ordered they ran out of, and they made a mistake with our appetizer order. We won't be back.

Evanston seafood excellence – An incredible restaurant, with a great menu which is well crafted and an extensive wine list to match. Service is attentive without being overbearing. A great cozy place which is perfect for a dinner for two or small group of friends.

Confessions of a sashimi junkie – The white billowy fabric cross the ceiling reflects the absolute speciality of this establishment -- seafood. Before I stepped into Oceanique, I disliked cooked fish -- I adore sashimi and believe honestly that the best of fish is ruined by cooking. But Oceanique has challenged me to think twice. The chef's audacity to prepare the salmon rare intrigued me, and when I saw it, I was in love. Imagine this: you gently nudge the creamy pink salmon and each velvety layer comes off perfectly, just ... read more
