??Oba! Restaurante y Refresqueria opened in Portland, Oregon in October 1997. Owner Steve McLain, who had spent the 1980s managing and owning restaurants in high-profile markets such as the Bay Area and Los Angeles, had already completed a successful purchase and turnaround of Hall Street Grill in a Portland suburb ??? a restaurant that continues to thrive under his ownership today. Eager to open a second venture in a more urban setting, McLain chose the heart of the Pearl District. At the time, this gritty, industrial area ... read more

Home run latin-style! – Went to OBA for the first time and WOW!! Love the variety with the Tapas and Platos...so many great choices and tastes. Fun mixed drinks that really quenched my thirst from the "heat" of my delicious dinner. Service was great! Relaxed atmosphere. Definitely a place for the more refined palate and not necessarily for the "Olive Garden" crowd. Hats off to OBA!
Has not changed – One of the things people always say in defense of Oba is, if you can't fit in deal with it and go elsewhere. I say maybe Oba doesn't fit in and needs to change.
Always a favorite – Oba always ranks up there as one of the restaurants that we take guests to. The ambience is great. Food is fantastic. And there is always a high energy feel in the place. Yes, it may be one of the few places in town that your hippie friend with dreads may feel a little out of place, but if you are looking for a change of pace this is the place.
Pretentious – This is one of my absolute least favorite places in Portland. The only thing worse than the greasy old men flaunting their money around are the bimbos in tight skirts from Oswego who actually fall for it. My suggestion? Go in the afternoon, have a drink and then get the hell out of there before the hoopla begins.
Service still stinks – My friends and I tried out Oba a few months ago, but quick going becasue the service was SO bad. We went back last week to see if things improved. Like before, the food was good, but we had to wait for the bartender and waitress to finish their convo before we could get served. We will not go back.
Yes! – With excellent food, outstanding service and a glitzy atmosphere, Oba manages to not go over the top. It stays affordable, fun and delicious. Highly recommend the caesar salad.
