We broke our lease early to leave this place due to the health hazards that caused a back injury to my fiancee. More on that below. Our unit was fairly nice looking when we first moved in, so we took the bait. Nice finishes and appliances, and they boasted it was a one of a kind unique unit that no one else in the community had. Essex charged me a ridiculous $7710 as moving out charges without justifications. The majority of $7710 was bedbug treatment/pest control expenses which they were passing to me. Essex was lying when they said my apartment was the only one with bedbugs, therefore, I must be financially responsible for it. In fact, they have bedbugs in all three building, #1, #2 and #3, as well as common areas, like the theatre. The community is pet friendly, which is awesome, except that no one cleans up after their dogs. Be prepared to walk out of your building and have to avoid a minefield of dog poop. This also includes the shared outdoor space inside the apartment complex itself! Forget wanting to host a BBQ when the whole place stinks of dog feces and urine. Think you're safe in the stairways? Violate of the city laws - according to the law they can not take money for a carpet cleaning! But they charge us for it! Accordance to p.59 Section 1 "Cost of Cleaning" of Californian Tenants' and Landlords' Rights and Responsibilities "A landlord cannot routinely charge each tenant for cleaning carpets"
