I received a gift certificate for $100 dollars from my brother for Christmas on 12/30/19 and haven't had my nails done anywhere at all since the pandemic started. The certificate expires one year from the date of purchase and they would not honor it, even though many places do not have expiration dates or extended them indefinitely due to extenuating circumstances.
