I went at 7:30 and no crowd... until 7:45. The sweet hostess suggested I get the Meat Biscuit, it was soooo good. The coffee was execellent, the atmosphere was authentic, the people were so nice. I was not disappointed. I’ll be back!
Mother's is not what it used to be. They send you to a counter to order and pay, then you sit at a table and they bring it to you. But when you ask for the coffee you paid $2.75 for, they tell you to go back to the counter and get it, same for water - they did not mention this at the counter earlier. When they bring your food, they say to leave your tip on the table. The pancakes for $8 were large and impressive looking, but they were dry and not very good. 30 minutes wait to get in I had the ham, red beans and green beans food was not good
The fried chicken and bread pudding were yummy. Red beans and rice were a little bland. But will definitely be back.

Study the menu online first or give yourself a minute to figure it out before standing in line. We didn’t find the service rude nor overly friendly but appreciated the no nonsense and took it more as the lack of tipping makes it about the food and nothing else. We went for lunch on a Wednesday around 3 and had no wait. Between three of us we had a Fergi with Swiss that was nothing short of amazing (but very wet), the chicken and sausage gumbo- very good, and a fried catfish Po Boy that was just ok.
