Mother Hubbard's Sports Pub

4.1

About this business

Mother Hubbard's, a sports bar that has more satellite receivers than any other bars in Chicago. Because they offer drink discounts to area law firms, the place gets packed with legal types, alongside neighborhood regulars who want to play football in the front or pool on any of the three tables in the back. An aquarium under the main big-screen monitor contains four piranhas. You can also order food here, with the menu offing Mexican dishes, rotisserie chicken and standard bar fare at the standard bar prices.

Still the Best after all these years – Been going to Mother Hubbards Sports Pub for almost 20 years. Lots of new joints but they don't SPeak Sports like Mother Hubbards. Their Sports Nickname quizzes are fun and they show every out of market game and even soccer . Coach Smart and his staff were in there scouting the NCAA field the day before they played Georgetown. Love the stuffed burgers & jumbo size wings. Mother Hubbards Sports Pub is a pioneer and a classic.

Great Sports Bar – This place is directly between US Celluar and Wrigley, so both Sox and Cubbies fan can eat and enjoy the place. BEST french onion soup you can ever ask for! Service is fantastic. If you have a particular game you want to watch, they will take care of you and put it up.

$4.50 for a PBR...Are you kidding me? – Now please know that I like this place to a large degree...Friendly waitstaff/bartenders, but come on! Smithwich's for $5.50 is a bit steep, but understandable. So my next beer is a local brew - Goose Island's Honker's Ale - also $5.50. So I just wanted to see what the PBR would be...$4.50 and it is in a can. I visited on a Monday night and wasn't that busy all around. The food is average at best and I will have a hard time returning on a regular basis.

Discrimination central... Non-Chicagoans beware! – A few friends and I wanted to stop in Mother's Hubbard's after the Superbowl on Sunday. We were all out at a restaurant, didn't drink too much during the game, being a Giants fan from NJ, I wanted to hold off on partying to see if they won. We walked to Mother's Hubbard's to celebrate, the manager was bouncing and when he saw my giants hat before we even opened our mouth, said he thought we were wasted and couldn't be allowed in. We thought he was kidding, and questioned what... read more

Best bar! – This is by far my favorite bar to come to when I visit Chicago. I went for the first time in October 2006, and have been returning since. The bartenders are awesome and so are the management and door staff. They remembered me from my first visit, which was great because it was 6 months before. You can't beat service like that. Food wise, unfortunately, I have only had the nachos there, but they were great! The kitchen stays open late, which is a perfect cure for late night hunger pangs. It does get busy late, but... read more

IF YOU LOVE SPORTS AND WANT A REAL SPORTS BAR THIS IS YOUR DOMAIN! ;-) – If there is a game on it's being shown at Mother Hubbard's and the staff is so nice and willing to change any of the 40+ t.v.'s for you. I didn't know which way to look. My boyfriend and I played pool and enjoyed watching the Sox game. They even turn the sound on so you can hear it!! I thought it was an amazing sports bar for sports fans. Not only did they have local games they had all the games it seems. Any game that was being played was on soccer, to... read more

Overpriced and overcooked – This was probably my worst food eating experience in Chicago. If Chicago is known for their food, the tourists are going to leave quickly if they enter this establishment. It was awful - and that's putting it nicely. There is not one nice thing I can say about the place. First, the server skipped over our table and went to help someone who came in after us. Then we ordered buffalo wings - instead of wings, they should have been called 1/2 chickens. It was gross, impossible to pull apart and you co... read more
