It's been about 10 years since I visited Monticello and I love the new reception center. Staff was helpful there. At the house our guide spoke enthusiastically from what could have been memory. She portrayed Jefferson as a brilliant, tall, good looking man with hardly a care although we know he struggled financially as he built and changed Monticello and then furnished it with the finest France could offer and which he could hardly afford. However, the guide doing the slavery tour on Mulberry Row was authentic, knowledgable ... read more

We had a great time at Monticello! The family friendly tour of the house with Jane was very well done! She kept the kids (and adults) engaged and interested. The hands on activities for the kids were well prepared and the staff was friendly and helpful. Highly recommend a visit to Monticello!

I loved that the slave tour didn't pull any punches or make excuses.

Though Washington's estate at Mt. Vernon appears to be larger, and very similar in presentation, Jefferson's Monticello is a MUST see for the American History enthusiast and even for the modern scientist! The evidence of T.J.'s mind is a beautiful thing to behold.

We visited Thomas Jefferson's beloved MONTI ELLO yesterday. Our tour was filled with interesting facts and fabulous furnishings that all belonged to Jefferson's family. Walking around the grounds shows you the way of life in the late 1770's and beyond, and give you a glimpse into the intricate mind of one of the greatest ... read more

Did the Behind the Scenes Tour. Very interesting and thorough. All in all, it was a little under two hours. Getting to go to the second and third floors showed just how big the house really is. No AC on the third floor, so if you do the more expensive tour (worth it), go early because it will get hot.
