Raul Molina arrived in Houston from his hometown of Laredo, Mexico, in the 1920s. Like many of his contemporaries, he was searching for a better life and found work in a local restaurant as a busboy, dishwasher and counterman. In 1941 Raul and wife Mary opened their first Mexican restaurant, the Old Monterrey, located in Houston at 1919 W. Gray. Normally my favorite...just ate there today 8.29 service and food was not up to par at all....tortillas were undercooked and fajitas were 1/4 in thick and mostly chicken gristle...got our other order wrong, what a disappointment
RecommendedBest Tex-Mex in Texas. Opened their first restaurant in 1941 and the same menu abounds. Nothing has changed except cost but it is still more than reasonable. WAY less than El Tiempo and Chuy's and frankly— WAY better!
Great enchiladas, yummy guacamole, flavorful tacos, original table sauce is spicy and perfect! The Velveeta chili con queso superb and best of all, the chips are the best in Houston. Wonderful TexMex and great service at the Westheimer location! It's the kind of TexMex you crave!

We had such a terrific first visit at Molina’s today for the KHOU Texan’s special. The owner and staff couldn’t have been friendlier, or the food more delicious! Can’t wait to visit again! — with Tara Walleck Merida.

Food is delicious. The best original hot sauce, cheese & beef enchiladas, unlimited hot sauce & chips, tamales, and carrot salad. Incredible candy. Outstanding service.
