not very exciting I went to this restaurant with a group and we got a private room. I wasn't impressed with the food, but the bread was pretty good, and the service was good. I haven't gone back to this restaurant (it has been about 3 years) and I don't plan to.

Upscale Dining in Redwood Shores My friend and I managed to get a table pretty much immediately at 5:40pm, despite not having any reservations -- although by the time we left, around 7pm, the place had impressively packed in, and I would not be at all surprised if there was a significant wait for people without reservations. Perhaps because we were so early, and there were so few people there at the time (it really was pretty desolate at 5:30), our service was fairly prompt. I thought there was a bit of a long wait between o... read more

Not Bad After hearing mixed reviews, I entered the restaurant with low expectations, but was pleasantly surprised. The service was better than expected, timely with meals, water refills, etc. The menu was as expected (reminded me of Steamers in Los Gatos), but with a bit less flavor and consistency of quality in the menu.Given its location to my work, I would eat here again. PROS: Good atmosphere, nice outdoor seating, decent menu selection CONS: overall taste of dishes could improve a bit.

table clothes & an up-market feel We were hoping to stop past for a quick beer but the bar was full so they had to 'seat' us and then got a bit confused as to why we didn't order food.

Nice place for lunch or after work drinks Mistral is tucked in a small strip mall, but has a lovely water view since it looks out at a lagoon in Redwood Shores. The atmosphere is pleasant, service is friendly and prompt, and they have some good lunch options as well as tasty appetizers and drinks. For a business lunch or team gathering, it's a good option.

Despite mixed reviews... I had a lovely lunch and really enjoyed the atmosphere. I think the key is to get a table on the patio to get the full effect. The menu had lots of interesting choices and was not a run of the mill sort of place. The title says that this is a "family restaurant" but I am not sure if I would bring my kids here (they are 1 and 3) as there were limited choices for them and they perfer to be in a place that they can strech their legs, and I would feel a bit uneasier in this place. I would go back. PROS: ... read more

Has potential to be a great place The good: Mistral is in a very convenient location (though somewhat hard to find) and has great decor and ambiance. The bad: the quality of the food was spotty - some people enjoyed their dinners, some didn't. (I personally really liked what I had, an organic pine nut salad and sauteed mushrooms.) Also, the menu is not too friendly to vegetarians. The ugly: two things: (1) When we arrived, the host told me that we needed reservations or had to wait an hour, then my co-worker asked again and ... read more

I love it here I like the atmosphere, it is loud but fun. My kids go here happily (and behave pretty well), but it isn't necessarily kid appropriate if your kids aren't used to behaving at a restaurant. There is seating outside when the weather permits and it is lit outside with white lights - very pretty. I only go for dinner, but there is a bar where I have seen what appears to be a cool place to go after work. I can only comment on the skirt steak because why mess with a good thing. It is fabulous! In fact, three generati... read more

Good Not Great Place to Eat I have enjoyed this restaurant many times over the years since it is very close to where I work, but for the life of me I can never remember anything specific that I ate. Each meal has been pleasurable and eating on the deck is quite delightful. The service is solid, the atmosphere is fine and the prices, though perhaps a bit high, are acceptable. I suggest you try it yourself and see what you think.
