Although the screen printing process was conceptualized and developed in ancient China, it wasn’t patented until the 20th century. The process was patented in 1907 by Englishman Simon Samuel, and the basics of this technique are still used today.

Seeing ghosts? Sometimes, after the screen emulsion is removed, a ghost image remains. Ink residue gets trapped in the mesh, producing a faint outline or “ghost” image in your next printed piece. Try using dehazing solutions to remove ghost images and recondition your screens.

You can keep costs down and reduce the backlog of old screens by using a reclaimer to clean them. These products are stencil removers that allow you to wipe out old designs, freeing the screen for use in a new application.

Never assume that the drying oven will perform consistently, even during a given run. You should always monitor fabrics as they exit the dryer, especially white fabrics, for signs of improper drying or scorching, and make any heating adjustments as needed.

Although many organizations opt for embroidered collared shirts, screen printed t-shirts can actually be a more cost-effective option. In most cases, these shirts are also easier to care for.

Trying to decide between a six color or four color press? A four color press is usually good for setting up a smaller unit that will be used for a single purpose, while a six color press is a better option if you're looking at setting up a commercial press.

Most conveyers use infrared to heat and dry the screen printing ink, but that's not always effective if you use an air-dry ink, such as those used on towels. If you plan to use air-dry inks, then a forced air feature on a conveyor can help dry it.

If you club or bar is expecting a large crowd on a particular night, you can make the venue safer by making sure your staff are outfitted with shirts screen printed with “Security” on them. As an added precaution, have them printed with ink that reacts with black light.
