Wish I could give a negative star. They sold us a vehicle. Told us a few days later they should have never sold us the vehicle. Had us bring it back and held our trade in and down pymt and gave us a loaner vehicle while looking for a different vehicle. They were supposed to hold our old vehicle incase they couldn't find something comparable. Sold our old vehicle. Took loaner vehicle back and tried to sell us different car for more money. Ended up having to give us trade in value for our vehicle (so we lost money). Awful.
On March 9, 2021 I purchased a 2019 Nissan ***** from Midway Nissan in Phoenix AZ. I gave $1000 as down payment on my credit card and traded in my 2006 Nissan ***** for $4000 towards purchase of the 2019 ***** ***** truck. I financed the rest of my purchase with ******* **** **** through Midway Nissan.
On March 12th I received a message saying “there is a problem with the truck you are driving.” After me making multiple calls to the dealership and texting back I was told I needed to bring back the truck I purchased to the dealership. I live in Mesa which is about an hour away from the dealership, so the next Saturday (March 13), I brought my new purchased truck back.
I was told that the truck that I was sold, was never supposed to have been sold to me. The previous owner of that truck needed their truck back as their sale didn’t go through. I was given a loaner vehicle and told to drive the loaner until a new truck of the same year and condition was found for me. During this conversation with 2 sales managers at the dealership I said “hold onto my old truck. I want a truck similar year, similar mileage, same Nissan ***** *****, same price, like I previously tried to buy.” My old truck was still on the lot. I saw it myself as I had to get my work badge out of it that I had forgotten on March 9th when I traded it in. The sales people and sales manager assured me they would hold my truck and be in contact with me as they looked for another truck that was similar to the one I tried to buy. I said if they were not able to find such a truck to let me know so I could get my down payment of $1000 and my original truck back. They agreed they would do that.
I didn’t get any response from the dealership. I called and left messages for GM Kent, I texted Alex (original saleswoman), etc. I did finally get a call from dealership on March 24th. They said they could sell us a brand new truck. I asked if it would be same price as the original truck I tried to buy as I could only budget for that price. They said it would only be $100 more a month and the loan would only be extended by one year. I said that was not what we agreed to. The salesperson said they would go back to looking for a used truck for me.
Then on April 29 I get a text from Alex our salesperson. Saying that they had found a truck for me and she believed it was a 2019. On the April 30th I got pictures of the truck and the *** ***. Then I asked for the price of the truck and was told the GM was busy and he was working on the numbers for the truck. I wanted to get the price of the truck so we could agree before we came down to sign paperwork if the truck was in good condition. Then I was told they need the loaner truck back ASAP as I was not supposed to have the truck longer than 2 weeks per company policy. I was also told that they would work with me on the price due to Midway Nissan’s mess up and the situation.
The next day May 2nd we took the loaner truck back to check out the used truck they had found to replace the original 2019 we had purchased. When we got there I asked if they still had my old truck (06 *****) and was told it was there. The truck they found had suspension problems and alignment issues after my inspection and test drive. This was concluded from my 20 years as a mechanic, and my personal preference. They came back with a price of $41,000 on the truck. I told them that the truck was not worth that to me as the original purchase was for $36,000 financed and agreed upon. They were not able to get the price down to an agreeable level for me. I reminded them that they said they would get me a good price since they messed up in the beginning. They said both the GM and finance manager were fired because of what happen to us and the new GM would not budge on price because he wasn’t working there when this originally happened. I then asked for my 06 ***** back. That is when they told me that they sold my old truck wholesale. This was without having a new deal that I had agreed to with the used vehicle they found for us. Then they told us there was nothing they could do and offered us a new truck at $47,000. They then told us that they could pay us the $4000 that we agreed for the trade deal for the original purchase for selling our truck. But that they could not give us a check at that time as the GM was off that day. We eventually got in writing that Midway Nissan owed us $4000 for a trade in and $1000 for the down payment. They also said if we purchased a vehicle at another Nissan dealership, they could wire the money to another dealership for us. That we just needed to tell whatever dealership to ask for Ernie in finance at Midway Nissan. Or if we didn’t find a truck the check would be ready on Monday May 3rd at 10am. We went to ****** ******and told them about getting the money from Midway. ****** ****** said they couldn’t do that, as it was illegal. Again, another lie we were told by Midway. As it was, we were left at Midway Nissan, out $5000, and had our truck sold out from under us with no way to get home. A salesman at Midway felt bad for us and drove us to ****** ******. On Monday morning when we arrived to pick up our check it was not ready and was told it would take 24hrs to process the check and then the sales manager left us standing there. We waited 30 min with no contact from anyone at the dealership. Then I did call the police to put in a report of what was going on and how we felt as though Midway Nissan had stolen our truck and sold it. They did eventually get the GM there to sign the check and then we were all good. And the GM who signed the truck was Kent, the GM who worked with us originally, agreed to hold our old truck, and was supposedly fired and sent to *** ******with the finance Manager.
We really felt backed into a corner at Midway Nissan with very little options. Our only options were to buy a truck from them at what I felt as an inflated rate or to get an **** home with my wife and daughter with less than what I originally came into the dealership with. So they basically sold our truck and took away my option to leave the dealership without buying a truck from them. This really felt as though we were being taken advantage of and extreme pressure that we had to buy a truck from Midway Nissan. Also, used car prices have increased in the last 2 months and we believe we could have gotten more value for our old truck as a trade in, instead of the $4000 that we got from Midway. When we looked up ***** **** **** for our truck the price was more and we had an offer from ****** for more for our truck as well. When we did finally get our check from Midway Nissan, they told us not to cash it for 3 hours. This seems very strange and unprofessional. We are very unhappy with our experience and we wanted to contact Nissan directly to look into the dealings of this dealership. I don’t feel what they did was legal, and it was definitely not professional and makes Nissan look bad. Besides contacting you, we are letting all the major news outlets in the Phoenix area know as well. We would hate to see someone else be taken advantage of in the same way that we were.
Because we were lied to so many times-it was hard for us to keep all of them straight. Here is the list:
1. Selling us a truck that isn’t supposed to be for sale.
2. Telling us they will find a comparable truck, and contact us on a regular basis to get our input of comparable trucks.
3. Telling us we can use their loaner truck as long as it takes to find a comparable truck.
4. Telling us they will hold our old truck in case the sale doesn’t go through.
5. Telling us they will get us a great deal on the next truck because they made a mistake in the first place and it would be same age or newer, similar or less miles, similar condition and better price.
6. Telling us GM and Finance manager were fired for our sale, even though they still worked there.
7. Telling us there was nothing they could do about taking away the loaner vehicle and leaving us stranded an hour away from home.
8. Telling us they could wire our money to any Nissan dealership if we wanted to buy somewhere else.
9. Telling us our check would be ready on Monday at 10a.
10. Telling us they could only give us $4000 for our truck, even though that price was agreed as a trade in price and not a sale only (us only selling our truck to them).
11. Telling us $41000 was the best price they could do on their 2019 *****. That price wasn’t posted on the window of the truck and we asked for days for a price and even waited for hours while we were there on Sunday May2.
On a side note, while we were there on Monday May 3rd, there was another family waiting a long time like us. They were also waiting on a check from Midway. We overheard that the dealership also lost their drivers license too. So we know someone else was also taken advantage of by this dealership
