I love the food in the restaurant here, 1950s style the breakfasts are wonderful waffles, pancakes etc. I have been going there for twenty years or moreI stopped going there awhile ago though when they got rid of the older waitresses and replaced them with young attractive women - how lo can you go.

Horrible!! Service was crawling. Food was far overpriced!! Should be 40% lower. and the quality was barely passable!! You can buy a cake or baked goods there- but dont bother eating there....ever!!! F

Merritt Restaurant has been around for a long time. If youre looking for an inexpensive breakfast then this is the place to go. The menu has been the same for years and the food caters to the 65 and over crowd. If youre looking for a gourmet meal this is not the place. If you are looking for healthy faire this is not this place. Grab something at the Go-Bar and be on your way. The chicken thats raved about in the past now has some tough competition from the super Albertsons opened next door. Bakery has thinned out its select... read more

Bakery is great Restaurant sucks, over priced mediocre food.
the bakery is fine, but the restaurant is wildly over-priced for diner food. for the same cost, you could go to a nice restaurant...or get your diner food at dennys for a quarter of the prices charged here. its a shame that supporting an oakland institution is such a rip-off.
