When Cedar Rapids needed hospital beds in 1900, the Sisters of Mercy established Mercy Hospital in a small house on Third Avenue and Sixth Street Southeast. The 15-bed house was soon too small, so the Sisters of Mercy looked for money and a site to build a larger hospital. They went from parish to parish and to nearby towns. In 1903, they were able to construct a 100-bed hospital at Mercy's present location. I had Nasal Sinus Surgery yesterday and for the most part, it went well. The main complaint I have is that the Nurse in the recovery room removed the cotton balls from inside my nostrils since I was not bleeding. Which was fine, but another Nurse who completed my check out did Not give me any cotton balls, no cotton gauze pads or medical tape, Nothing! I was bleeding through out the night from both nostrils and I had to fabricate toilet paper with tape to control my bleeding. I have had surgery at Mercy Medical before and th... read more
