closed, was going downhill fast
Had been dining here occasionally for years, and it really declined once Landry's took over. Great location and view, but a few years ago they remodeled and fired all their experienced waitstaff. New servers were young and clueless for the most part. Dined here two days before their surprise closure. They added a 5% charge to total that was mentioned nowhere on the menu. When asked, the manager said it was their effort to deal with Seattle's higher minimum wage. Unlike other Seattle restaurants that have chosen to add an 18% (or so) surcharge to their bills and have eliminated tipping but increased servers' wages and benefits (e.g. Ivar's, Tom Douglas restaurants), the McCormick's 5% was NOT mentioned on the menu. And, more importantly, the 5% is NOT shared with the servers and not shared with staff. It is just a shady hidden charge by management. Speaking of shady, despite the fact that our bill was substantial (appetizers, entrees, sides, dessert, drinks) apparently the server thought he could pad the bill and we wouldn't notice. He added two cocktails we never ordered. When we asked, he brushed it off as a mistake. I highly doubt it. This location has permanently closed as of early March 2017. Beware of McCormick's and Landry's practices at other locations in Washington. Sadly, the outstanding location and view will probably be taken over by Amazon. As has the rest of Seattle.
