Despite having two herniated discs, Dr. Mccarthy told me she wouldn't touch me for surgery because of my size. She then suggested weight loss surgery. So. The risk is too great to help my pain, but not too great if it makes me smaller. She gave no other suggestions. I left without answers and sobbed in the parking lot.
Very Knowledgeable and Caring
Dr. McCarthy quickly made me feel comfortable and in excellent hands medically. She took the time to explain both the tests and the options both pro & con of what could be done. She is sincerely compassionate. Excellent bed-side manners and command of medical knowledge. A fantastic doctor I would highly recommend!!

Dr McCarthy came highly recommended but I left the appointment disappointed for several reasons. She said she couldn't tell the condition of my spinal cord due to my MRIs being open MRIs but didn't let me have a followup appointment to investigate this further. She told me my back was messed up but surgery wasn't an option to fix it and did not explain well at all how my back was messed up and had very little in the way of suggestons for how to help my condition- basically move more (that makes the pain way worse) or water p... read more
Best Dr I have ever seen! She makes you feel like you are talking to your sister about your problems! She listens intently to everything you say and works WITH you! She explains everything until you totally understand!
I had back fusion surgery. Dr. McCarthy has been great throughout the process - from pre-surgery evaluations to post-surgery follow-up. She gives very detailed analysis of current and expected status - in plain non-medical terms.
You won't find a better surgeon than Dr. McCarthy. She was very professional with an easy going manner and was very honest about what to expect immediately after surgery and 10 years down the road. I felt that Dr. McCarthy cared deeply about my issue and the success of the surgery. I would definitely take immediate family members to her in a heartbeat.
Had an L5-S1 fusion (gill laminectomy). Dr. McCarthy and her team are top notch. I was nervous going into the surgery but they made me feel comfortable. I was up and walking within hours after the surgery ended and walked over a mile the next day. Dr. McCarthy and her team constantly checked on me during the post-op recovery. She's very knowledgeable, professional, and has an aura about her that makes patients feel comfortable. I wouldn't waste time looking for a different back specialist.
