Located in the Pike Place Market, this restaurant overlooks Elliott Bay. Freshly renovated, Matt's is now noticeably more roomy. Many who remember this quaint little spot in the market will be pleasantly surprised to see the new, beautiful, spacious alternative. Although the restaurant has structurally undergone major renovations, you can expect the same old welcoming service and classically delicious seafood. The dinner menu changes seasonally, but you will likely find interesting and flavorful seafood dishes like geoduck w... read more

Rudest person answering a phone – I went to Matt's before the remodel and was delighted with the food - and the quaint atmosphere. I was eager to go with my husband - when we were looking for a place to celebrate our first anniversary. When we phoned to make a reservation (having learned they would soon open) we asked if we could make a reservation, and the gal on the phone said they're not accepting them yet, but possibly next week. When we inquired about next Saturday, she responded in a curt manor that was part of next we... read more
CAN'T WAIT FOR IT TO RE-OPEN!! – I'm missing my Matt's fix lately, but I can't wait to see the new space. It's gonna be gorgeous, and I'm afraid it won't be the little hidden gem it once was, but it will be worth it for more seating and--hey, maybe an actual kitchen instead of the camp-stoves they were using before!
Classier Market Fare – A good place to come with out of town friends who enjoy the spectacle of market grit but prefer the service and sanitation of a finer dining establishment.
DELICIOUS DISHES and a FABULOUS COUNTER SHOW! – Sit at the counter & watch the chef & crew work their magic on tiny gas stoves in a tiny tiny open kitchen! It is miraculous! A fun local menu with freshfreshfresh ingredients. Perfect seasonings & pairings. We compare the artistry to BIN 941 / BIN 942 in Vancouver BC -- our fave restaurant. Casually charming staff are friendly & accomodating.
good food, poor service – The food is inventive and tasty, but my last two experiences at Matt's in the Market have left me with a bad taste in my mouth: what's going on with the service!? Perhaps they are coping with the crowding problem in this cozy establishment by driving people away with bad attitude? The last time I was there I had the nerve to ask the waitress for a straw for my soda -- she barked "No." No apology, no explanation, just an answer that was rude enough to cause a diner at the next table to comment on it.... read more
Wonderful every time – Matt's in the Market is a cozy, charming, and unpretensious place with friendly wait staff. The food is consistently very good, I have never had a bad meal here. Since it is a small place, reservations are highly recommended, especially during lunch time when it is packed. It's particularly lovely in the summertime - so be sure to ask for a table by the window and look down at the Market, Puget Sound, ferries, etc.
Seattle's best-kept secret that isn't anymore.... – This is without a doubt my favorite restaurant in all of Seattle. Of the dozens of people I've taken there for lunch, only one person didn't like it. You can't get fresher seafood anywhere, and everything is superb. My favorite is the "Honkin' Hot Albacore" sandwhich, but you will love anything they serve. The only drawback is that Matt's is as popular as it deserves to be: to eat lunch there, plan ahead. They DO take reservations , but be flexible on a Friday or Saturday, ... read more
Excellent little restaurant – We had the clam appetizer and the dinner special (monkfish) -- both were excellent. I was told by a friend that their bread pudding was the best in Seattle, so we tried it and it did live up to the high expectation. My husband, who doesn't usually like dessert, enjoyed it as much as I did. We will definitely come back!
What a find! – Have wanted to try Matt's for quite some time, so made a point to try it for lunch. We had to wait over 30 minutes, but it was worth it. The place is tiny, so there's nothing that can be done about that, so be prepared for the wait. Once we sat down, at the counter, we had awesome sandwiches, nice glasses of wine, and conversation with the staff and other patrons. It was magical to watch Matt work in that tiny kitchen. Can't wait to go back for dinner!
