Hitt or Miss – I live in Santa Monica and have ordered delivery from Mao's Kitchen three times. I've never dined in or had takeout but in reference to all the reviews on here citing poor customer service, I have to say that each time, the food was delivered hot and within the time frame that I was told (usually 45 minutes). The portions are generous and the prices, quite reasonable. However, the food itself seems to be hitt or miss. On a friend's recommendation, I tried the Sichuan Eggplant (with beef as my choice of protein... read more

Horrific Customer Service – I had been a loyal customer for a number of years. I never once thought the food was outstanding but you get what you pay for and this was always a quick, cheap and mediocre way to satsify a craving. I recently ordered take out ($50 worth of food). When it arrived, the order was wrong and the food just tasted bad that night (wrong order, rice was undercooked and noodles were overcooked). I took maybe 2 bites of everything to make sure it wasn't just one dish that tasted "off" but it was all pretty... read more

Tasty Chinese Thai food – I frequent Mao's about 2-4 times a month. I absolutely love this place. I am vegan, and it is overwhelming how much they cater to us and the food is always so yummy. I have never had a problem with the service, although the place does get very busy on Friday and Saturday nights..but there is a reason for that!! My personal favorites are the Vegan Onion Pancake-a must try and all of my non-vegan friends love it too! Bamboo steamer dumplings with spinach, mush, tofu, Crispy salad with Smoked Tofu, sic... read more

Great food, poor service – The service is incredibly inconsistent which is unfortunate because the menu is interesting and the food is delicious. On our last visit, we asked our server for hot sauce 3 times and never got it. I'll continue to go, but only when I'm not very hungry and I have the patience to deal with the service.

ABYSMAL SERVICE! – I cannot believe that they can stay open with such horrific service. I love the Peace Not War Wonton Soup, but good grief the service is so awful it's just not worth it. Who cares how good the taste is when it consistently arrives cold, you can't get a glass of water, the waitresses are in a brain-dead stupor and you have to beg for the check! I've tried going early, bad service. I've tried going late, bad service. I've tried delivery, a joke. I've tried take out, absurd. I don't care how good the food is,... read more

Food might be great, but I wouldn't know – My girlfriend and I came here for a late lunch last Saturday, and were ignored for 20 minutes after we sat down. The restaurant was only moderately busy, but still no excuse for being so woefully understaffed. No one seemed to notice when we finally walked out.

The lone bright spot in westside chinese – I've been living here for a few years now, and Mao's is the only place where i can get chinese food that actually tastes good. Service is always spotty, but if you order carryout, the foods fresh, hot, and on time. the Orange Ginger Chicken and Weiweur Lamb are personal favorites, but i've never gone with anyone who had a bad experience. Long live the Chairman!

Best Inexpensive Chinese Food in LA – I've lived in LA for 2 years now and Mao's is the best Chinese I've found. I know there has to be a great take out and/or inexpensive place closer to Los Feliz, but I have yet to find it. I love this place. It's trendy without being judgemental or pretensious. Prices are great and they are more than happy to make any changes requested. They also have a really good Jasmine Iced Tea. They are open really late and deliver.I love this place and readily drive out to Venice when I get a hanker... read more
