Fantastic Food – Great Omelettes, baked goods, sourdough toast, jam etc. Go early or on the weekdays and miss the long wait. Probably the best breakfast that I have ever eaten.
More or less average – If I had a dime for every place that served "the best brunch in San Francisco"... Ok, Mama's is pretty good. The lines are really, really long. It's also overpriced. Face it - brunch is the easiest meal to to be found in this city. There are plenty of other spots that are better, cheaper or easier to get into. Cheaper and easier: Cafe Solar, Ti Couz (ok, pretty much anywhere). Better and easier - Citizen Cake. Better and cheaper: Chloe's, Kate's Kitchen. ALL THREE - 2223, Zazie. And if you aren't takin... read more
Just to good!!! – our visit to SF was was terrific. The restaurants were for the mostpart outstanding. Breakfast? we were diecrted to Mama's. We ended up eating there the last 3 days. To many great items to chose from but homemade breads for their french toasts, killer pancakes and a omlet with italian bacon, fresh herbs roasted tomatoes. great value though the coffee needs AIRPOTS.
Great brunch in North Beach... – Once you get in (and it may take a while on weekends so don't leave home too hungry), you'll forget the wait and choose among wonderful daily specials, legendary momelettes and other french toasts and pancakes made with fresh ingredients and cooked to perfection. My favorite brunch in the area. Just avoid the 10-1 croud (they serve from 8am til 3pm).
No raves – I've eaten here a few times and I don't know what everyone's raving about. The chicken sandwich is bland, the crab benedict so-so but the pancakes good. It's a little too trendy for my taste and the long lines are a turn off. And it's not a cheap breakfast...
Terrific breakfast, loooong lines – The cakes and breads that they have there are not to be missed, particularly the ones that come with jam. The pancakes are terrific and piled high with fruit. The omelettes are pretty good, although they tend to be a bit oily. The lines are ridiculous though - not sure how anyone could describe this place as a "secret" when there are lines out the door that last for an hour or more on the weekends. Gets pretty hot in there too.
The Best Breakfast In The City – Mama's On Washington has the best breakfast in the city. The quality is oustanding. The prices are fair. The portions are huge. The flavors are amazing. The atmosphere is charming. We love it! We travel from Florida just to eat there. :)
Ollallieberry Jam – Just tried Mama's for the first time today for a late breakfast. We avoided the long lines by coming on a week day. We got the vegetarian omlette (w/ spinach and jack cheese) with toasted sourdough baguette, and a short stack of blueberry pancakes. The pancakes were fat, and were the perfect sweetness with maple syrup and some of their Ollallieberry jam. The omlette was fluffy and the potatoes were perfectly crisp. The service was fast, the staff was friendly, and the food... mmmmm. IMHO, one of the best ... read more
Best Kept Local Secret – The high quality of food, friendly neighborhood service, and friends-and-family atmosphere are terrific! Just bring the paper and grab a coffee on your way at a local North Beach coffee shop, and you're set for a nice wait in line. It's a nice break from schedule-focused activities!
