Worth the long wait! – First time patron. Took friends for breakfast based on the positive reviews on this site. We were not disappointed!! ! The food is absolutely fabulous! We had the pecan pancakes, Ranchero eggs w/black beans and omlettes. The wait was long (45 mins), but it was worth it. Best breakfast ever!
its a great place – the thing is, you need a whole day to come to this place... there's line at the front, and inside too. the place is small but cozy. the people are friendly but not obnoxious. the food is sooooo worth the wait. been there with a few out of towners, and they all gave thumbs up and even craving the food. i looove their pastry. and their french toast. and their potatoes. even their lunch menu is tasty. if you are not in a hurry, then should check out this place when you are in the neighbourhood.
ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT!! – I couldn't believe my eyes when I read all these bad reviews! I am a huge eater and a picky one at that. These people must be complete snobs that simply enjoy discrediting excellent food simply b.c there is hype surrounding this place! I admit, the wait was long....but my boyfriend and I ordered just about everything just to try it all. Every single item was to die for! Seriously! Not one complaint. I would wait in that line every day for their food....and the owner is extremely personable! I love th... read more
Food great, service and ambience mediocre – The food was great - you must try the pecan buttermilk pancake with their specialty jam! The pancakes melt in your mouth like you wouldn't believe! The omelette was great too, recommend egg whites - makes it so much lighter. The service was so- so and the ambience was decent, not absolutely the greatest. Their coffee cakes are awesome too!!! But you have to get there early - before it opens if you can. The line forms fast and goes around the corner! Be the first ten if possible!
Better than what my mama would make! – Mama's is a bit of a breakfast institution on the edge of Washington Sq. Trying to get in on the weekends is very difficult so typically I've visited on a weekday between 10-11am. You've got a great choice of french toast, pancakes and the specialty "momlettes"! Everything is fresh and cooked perfectly, eggs are just the right texture without any specks. The french toast was a bit small but dense and tasty. Service and decor are both bright and cheery. Great little spot if you can get i... read more
There's a line out the door every Sunday morning - but it's worth the wait. Great breakfast options and sandwiches - and you can see all the food fresh in front of you. Great young professoinal crowd. This is a SF instituition so you have to come here at least once.
Huge line, Huge Prices, No Butter! – We waited in line and paid way too much for the worst breakfast ever. Everything was very cold including the super dry toast with no butter or margarine. there wasn't even any on the table! The banana nut french toast had so many nuts I think they forgot to add the dough. We mentioned politely to our waitress that our entire meal was cold and that was the last we saw of her. $40 dollars for two. gross tourist trap. Mama would be dissapointed.
User review by cj_gilbeau – My husband and I read about Mama's here at Citysearch and thought we would try it. We did have to wait a little while but it was well worth it. The food was absolutely fantastic. We will definately go there again. We highly recommend Mama's to start your day off right.
tourist trap – the line makes you think it's worth, unfortunately it is only because they've probably been mentioned as a place to visit in sfo by some magazine, etc. the food is average, the wait is idiocy defined, but the service is great, do admit that. when you pass by, laugh at the people waiting to get in, i do.
