walk in, look around, walk right back out – I looked at vintage engagement rings in multiple states, and I must say that this was probably my poorest experience. The problem is that they don't do anything particularly well. The service was ok, the location and shop atmosphere were ok, the selection was slim--it was just a blah experience all the way around. I certainly didn't have a bad experience, but the market is too competitive to leave your customer without something to hang their hat on.
Mixed feelings – My fiance (now husband) and I went into Maloy's to shop for an engagement ring. They had a good selection of antique and unusual which I was initially very excited about after some unpleasant experiences in the diamond district. We found a lovely old cut diamond at a fair price and proceeded to work with them to design the setting. We had an agreed upon price for the diamond and setting combined which was handwritten on our invoice and they turned it out in about a month. However, when my husband went to pic... read more
Maloy's is fabu! – I have had many jewelry repairs, commissions and appraisals done by Maloy's over the years- everything has been done exceptionally well, no matter if it was large or small. They did a fabulous job on my mother's antique wedding ring that needed several rubies replaced. It has very delicate goldwork which also needed some repair; they were meticulous and matched the old stones exactly. What I really appreciate is the time they take to give me a crash course on understanding each piece I've brought in, they ... read more
The perfect ring!!! The women that run this store are amazing!!! – I had the privalege of purchasing my engagement ring here for my now-fiance. She was looking for something completely unique and I found the perfect ring at Maloy's. The three women that I met that run the place were so helpful in every aspect. I had been looking for a while and each store I went into had a different vibe. But this place was so relaxed and no-pressure. They made sure I was happy and my fiance LOVES her ring. I cannot thank Maloy's enough for ... read more
Tricky owners and employees. – The store says that they will fix any jewerly that you buy. But they can take for ever and charge you an arm and a leg for it. They do not give you your money back, unless you call the Office for help with buyers in Oregon.
They won't guarantee their work. – I have had two bad repairs and one ongoing nightmare. When I had a broken prong on the basket of a ring repaired it came back mis-shapen. When I complained I was told they could replace the basket for "only wholesale" price. I finally took my ring to Canada where I got much better advice, problem solved, same-day service, for a fraction of the cost. I do find their attitude to be quite condescending and unapologetic. A bracelet I had made continues to lose it's stone. Maloy's is happy to ch... read more
Excellent for people without jewlery buying experience – My fiancee purchased our engagement ring at Maloy's in January. It is simple and perfect and came with an amazing story. Anyone interested in conflict-free diamonds, and "recyling" jewlery should come to Maloy's. The resize only took twenty minutes when we came in after he proposed. The staff were very knowledgable and helpful. We came to Maloy's to look at wedding bands as well. They ended up being our only stop! I found a nice band and we ordered one for my fiancee. ... read more
high prices, ok merchandize – i was a little disappointed in the repair work done to my grandfather's watch. the workmanship was only ok and the prices steep for the quality (and was more than the estimate). i will not have any more repair work done here, but will instead go to margulis in pdx or rossoffs in seattle. the antique selection is ok for a store of its size, but i prefer margulis, arnells or rossoffs.
Maloys is the BEST! – I had two wedding bands made here to match my 1920's platinum engagement ring and the work they did was absolutely amazing! They were able to match it exactly, it looks like it was always a set and I love it more every time I look at it! Not to mention they had them done in two weeks! My sister got a ring here to go with her engagement ring as well which is gorgeous! The first time I heard of Maloys was after falling in love with a friends ring that was made there as well, one of the most unique pieces ... read more
