Solid Cal-Mexican and good tequila drinks – The food varies from pretty solid to actively interesting (such as the avocado laden burrito). I like that the menu tries to feature specialties from different regions of Mexico, but I can't help feeling that no matter where the dish originated, it has been heavily flavored by the US here at Lula's. Still, it's a decent place with reasonable prices and truly delicious drinks.
Good mexican food – The mexican food here is solid and the atmosphere is fun. Good place to go on Main Street. The combo plates are especially delicious.
Pleasantly cozy – We were early on the lunch rush, and the tables were nearly filled by the time we were done. Our servers seemed genuinely nice, as all the guys were just relaxed and good-natured. Chips and green salsa were the starters, with good, fresh crunch to the chips. We both love enchiladas, so I went for the Chicken mole while my friend went for the Chicken suiza. Next time we'll have to try the lobster or duck enchiladas, or one of their other specialties. Our entrees consisted of two small enchiladas (I don't mea... read more
Great happy hour – I keep going back to Lula for the rediculously inexpensive banana margaritas that they serve during happy hour. So delicious and only $4! Their happy hour lasts from 1pm until 7pm every day, including weekends. Food on the bar menu is good, not great. Free chips and tomatillo salsa!
Unique Menu – My girlfriend and I dropped in for a quick lunch on a recent Sunday afternoon, and found the eclectic art charming, the service prompt, the menu deep and varied (with many unique offerings we hadn't seen at other Mexican restaurants we haunt - and that's a long list). We shared a very nice, quiet meal, great food (well prepared enchilladas suizas and chicken mole tamales in banana leaves), decided this was one of the best casual Westside spots we'd been too, regardless of cuisine, and requested their "frequent ... read more
mexican cantina on main – lovely art design makes this place a great find in the trendy less touristy part of santa monica. the calamari salad was fresh. The tequila infused drinks were strong and the atmosphere was great, making you feel like in mexico. A holiday away from los angeles. always a job well done on part of the restaurant by the beach. the menu boasts dishes from all over mexico and notes their heritage in brackets as well. it is a little expensive but definitely worth a visit.
Bla – This is a place you really want to like. It's cute. Great decor and wonderful, friendly service. Unfortunately the food was sub-par. I had a chicken tamale, but it had lots of skin and bones. The rice and beans were not particularly inspiring to say the least. The chile relleno also sucked... Overall, there's not much to commend this place... The margaritas were good?
My friends and I hit up Lula on Cinco de Mayo. Even though the place was packed, we were able to get a table. The food was excellent even on their busiest day of the year. I will definitely go back knowing if it was that good on Cinco de Mayo, it's gotta be even better with a more normal dinner crowd.
Great – Went to this place on Sunday evening and it was flat out great. The Duck Sopes were unbelievable. Our waitress was very knowledgeable of the menu and very attentive. They have 960 (okay maybe not that many - but alot of) tequila's to choose from. Everything was stellar. Enjoyed the experience tremendously.
