Although the primary focus of my practice is sports medicine I treat many patients who do not consider themselves athletes. By using a sports medicine approach I aim to avoid surgery but if needed can use minimally invasive arthroscopic techniques in many cases. My previous experience with elite athletes as well as patients from the community allows me to treat a wide range of problems. My research background keeps me on the cutting edge of orthopaedic surgery and provides patients with the latest scientific information and ... read more

Very knowledgeable and experienced ortho who was very conservative regarding going into the OR to solve my knee issue. I did have a TKR 3 months ago... did a great job with the surgery, staff is fantastic in particular his PA Nicole. Highly recommend
Did not like his bedside manner but I found him to be incompetent. I came to him because I broke my shoulder in 3 places and it was dislocated. He did not want to operate on a MS patient. His office gave me my x-ray disk with another patient's x-rays!!! I wrote him a letter because I thought he took money from drug companies and now it turns out he does!! He is a greedy doctor who does not want to operate on Medicare patients. A very moody man. He did not help me and ruined it for me to get help from any Duke doctor.
He treated me for shoulder pain, which was resolved after a second cortisone injection year after first. He could have suggested surgery but correctly did not and we had success with the more 'conservative' approach. Yay. So I think he was quite successful in helping me. One thing I will note as I'm still suffering a bit of a hangover about it: I did ask his opinion about hand arthritis that was developing and he said he thought it was ugly and he did not think anything could be done for it. Granted he is not a hand surgeon,... read more
I had chronic pain in my left shoulder for several years. I had seen other doctors previously that were not much help. I saw Dr. Almekinders, where he recommended a shoulder replacement due to severe arthritis (I was only in my low 40's at the time). During the surgery he found he could only do a partial replacement, as he ran into something unexpected. Six months after the surgery my pain and range of motion was much worse. He started to act like I was making it up, as I was "supposed" to be much better. Even before the sur... read more
Excellent orthopedic surgeon. He knows his stuff
Everything was great until I started having pain after the surgery 2 doctors and a PA told me I have issues with my partial knee replacements, But He insists that everything is fine. Less than 2 years have passed and there are days I can barely walk. It appears I will need surgery to correct the partial replacements
I believe he does a wonderful job at caring for all his patients. He takes the time to educate you on everything needed to be done. He make sure that after the procedure you are healing well and there are no complications.
Very arrogant. Would not look me in the eye. Seen as a second opinion and too nervous to give an opinion that would contradict the first doctor. Did not want to operate on Medicare patients. Terrible bedside manner
