After 9 years of pleasant but uneventful preventative trips to the dentist, I recently experienced some dental damage (teeth grinding, receding gums, etc.) due to COVID-related stress. Both my dental hygienist and the doctor spent extra time and care with me, not only fitting me with a bite guard but also taking the time to explain the science of what physiologically was happening and offering strategies for approaching the underlying causes to prevent future damage, even sharing from personal and familial experiences.
