La Fonda was originally established as "Holly Inn" in the spring of 1976. (La Fonda de Acebo) Octaviano "Otis" Trujillo, one of the original owners, re-established La Fonda de Los Lobos in May of 1992. (The Inn of the Wolves) Otis was born in Taos, New Mexico where "Mama Feloniz" still resides at the tender age of 83 surrounded by two of her four children and still enjoys good health. Inspired by his late father Ruben, Otis moved on to Denver, Colorado where he learned the restaurant industry and resided until the move to Mi... read more

Ugh...Not Returning – We went to La Fonda last week over the lunch hour for a friend's birthday. Heard it was good food and thought it would be different from where we usually go for lunch. When calling to give them a heads up that 10 people would be heading over, the person who answered the phone sounded very disinterested and bored, but that didn't deter us! Upon arriving, they had a table set up for us and the server was nice. However, she didn't tell us that sour cream and guacamole would cost extra. We inquired and she ... read more
Huevos Monterey was pretty frightening! – gave it one star for great parking. chips tasted like they were from a bag. i believe the pool of cheese and grease took off a year of my life...
Scandavian Mexican Food – Bland, bland, bland. Portions are big, sure, but if you want any zip or any authenticity (or any taste) this is not the place for you. This is the place for nice older Norwegians who like their food a pasty white color. The service was so-so. The ambience was forgettable and non-offensive. There was plenty of parking though.
Bad food, worse service – My brother was in town from Okalahoma and wanted some good Mexican food, so we decided to try this place. Bad choice! The food was just so-so and the service was worse. When I asked our waiter what a chili relleno was, he said something about pork and corn hash. I said "isn't it a pepper that's breaded and fried with cheese in it?" and he said "no, that's a tostada". I was confused because I'm new to that dish, but thought "okay, he must know better since he works here." Wrong! He came back after a ... read more
Good Food – Were talking about real mexican food, not Taco Bell. Large portions. Priced right! Great down stairs, for after dinner. Great date place
just so-so mexico – Not sure why everyone loves the food here. I go to the bar for the karaoke, and the friendly staff. It's a fun local bar. Nothing fancy/upscale. I tried the tacos and prefer El Loro's down the street--much tastier and better value.
The worst overall – This is the one of the worst restaurants I have ever gone. FOOD? The portion is extremely small and they taste like military food. The service is also terrible. The stupid server kindly reads out your check amount so that everyone in the restaurant knows that.
Modern Mexican cuisine offered in simple surroundings; fruity margaritas draw locals. – In Short You know you're at a Mexican restaurant by the red, yellow and green decor. Food portions are large--nachos grande, chile con queso, shrimp-and-rice burritos and La Fonda's specialty and standout dish, the trademarked Loborito. It's a taco-burrito cross that features lettuce, tomato and seasoned beef packed inside a flour tortilla, smothered in cheese and sauce, and then baked.
Greatest Mexican Secret – This restaurant is the best kept secret of the Twin Cities. Excellent selection, great food, sizable portions, reasonable price. Bring an appetite! Very comfortable atmosphere and friendly waitstaff.
