About this business

Oaxacan cuisine is served at La Carta de Oaxaca, which is nestled on Ballard Avenue. You can't miss the bright entrance. Once you step in, make yourself comfortable at one of the long tables. Do let your glance venture towards the open kitchen where a busy staff cooks up delicious Mexican treats. Lots of black and white photographs line the otherwise plain walls. House specialties include the famous Oaxacan mole negro and fish soup among many others. In case you get stuck waiting for a table, go ahead and gulp down those teq... read more

Fantastic Food, Great Atmosphere, Good Margaritas! – A neighborhood gem! My family eats here weekly. The food is authentic and so tasty. The service is warm & you can get in and out fairly fast. Prices are reasonable. The mole is divine! The picaditas, the carne asada, the flan, the guacamole. Everything is fabulous!

Come on Down, the Hype is Right – My Second Review... After hearing so much hype about this restaurant I obviously had to try it out for myself. WIth much scepticism (you know how it is when a movie is hyped up so much you're already looking to hate it) my friend and I traveled over to Ballard to check out the scene. Of course the wait was 45 mins, but what else could have been expected? After sitting down, staring at all the emaculate artwork, mix of new and old architchture lines, there was a buzz in the air that this plac... read more

Great Flavourful Food – On a recent 4 day trip to Seattle, our lunch here was the most memorable of all our meals. The al pastor tacos were sensational. The tostadas, much different than your big salad in a bowl shaped shell, were also terrific. I'm sad that I may never get up to Seattle to eat there again.

Great place. Fish tacos - gauco. are wonderful – This is a fun place. Drinks are good. Order the fresh chips and guaco. Everything else that I have tried (most of the menu) has been good too. You might need to wait for a table.

Worth the Wait – I have been hearing about this restaurant for the last year from all over. I finally made the plunge last night with a large group of friends. I went by around 7 and by 8 they had a table for the 9 of us, which is amazing in itself. The service was quick and the host was so much fun. We had rounds of margaritas, Negro Modella and chips and guacamole. They have a wonderful salsa bar where you can go to choose whatever salsa you want to compliment your meal. Their famous mole was absolutely wonderful; as was e... read more

Why so good? – So this place is amazing. I will say that I once got a tamale with a tiny mechanical spring in it but their food really is good enough to overlook my random encounter. La Carta is always packed, every night of the week so watch out. The big crowd outside makes it easy to find.

Try The Mole! – Oaxaca is THE place to go for Mexican tapas. I usually order 5 plates for 2 people, so we can share! (We even had leftovers). One of the best parts about this is that the women do all of the cooking in the back and the men have to serve! Keep in mind not to sit next to the door if it's cold outside, as the long line out the door will keep it open (after one strong margarita, it wasn't cold anymore). Also, there is minimal seating so expect to wait on a busy night (it's worth it)!

OUt of this world delicious – La Carta de Oaxaca is unbelievable. I could eat here every day and never get tired ot the authentiic oaxacan food.. Qualtiy of the food is excellent and the margaritas are my favorite. The service is warm and it has a really great atmosphere. The portions are small and meant to be shared similar to tapas style. The mole is amazing! Expect to wait for a table but it's well worth it!

excellente – La Carta is awesome. Yes, they are always busy and you will always have to wait for a table but once you're in there the service is great and the food is even better.
