It is the number one rated ski resort around Lake Tahoe. With exciting terrain off the Wagon Wheel Wall chairlift and off the Cornice Express chairlift. Trouble is that now Vail own it they don't promote it instead promoting Heavenly & Northstar so it gets less people coming to it. They shut the mountain too early in the season it should stay open until the end of May every year. They seem to understaff the mountain too and open the decent chairlifts late. Just spent two amazing days at Kirkwood. Such a shame it's closing with so much snow still on the mountain. Staff was extremely helpful and friendly. Lodging that we chose was basic and reasonable and within a stones (or snowball) throw of the lifts. Nothing fancy but when skiing is the priority, I prefer not to spend an arm and a leg on a room.
