Through the experience of living and working as a massage therapist on the island of Maui, I discovered lomilomi, the ancient form of Hawaiian healing massage. Dr. Maka'ala Yates , a Kanaka Maoli (of Hawaiian ancestry) is a highly respected Kumu Lomi Elima (master teacher of lomilomi). As my good friend and mentor, he has been fundamental in guiding me to a greater understanding of the principals of Hawaiian healing. He inspires the vision we represent.

They are never open! – I tried calling in to this spa several times. It sounds wonderful...but I call on days they are supposed to be open and they don't answer their phones -- then when I think of it next it is Monday or Tuesday. It was so frustrating! I really wanted to get a gift certificate for someone in our company and ended up going to the "new" place in Lake Oswego. That spa is very nice - but we didn't have a great experience there either! Our "bath was too hot" and my husband had to wait (naked under his robe) in t... read more
Birthday surprise – Attention to detail, elegant appointments, soothing atmosphere. Pleasant experience overall.
Excellent! – I have been to several spas around town, and though I find most of them adequate, I really like Kanani. The atmosphere is low key and very relaxing right from the start, and the services are terrific.
great treatment at a great price – These folks are terrific. They were totally accomodating on my visit and the treatment I received was the best! I hadn't checked the price prior to the treatment (guess I was too so eager for a massage I forgot!). So I was delighted to find that my treatment was competively priced. Overall experience was great!
Best Spa in Portland! – I walked into the spa and felt like I entered a Hawaiian retreat. I proceeded past the curtain into this hallway where water is running under the wood panels on the floor. The sound is so soothing and relaxing. I recieved a super soft robe and had the option of steaming or going into the sanctuary room for tea or an elixer to wait for my treatment. Mary Ellen is the best massage therapist, and I have had a lot of massages. The facials are incredible, where you leave looking fabulous, not having to wai... read more
Truly Amazing Place – I can't believe something like this exists in Portland. I've travelled the world and this place is right up there as a world class place. Facial by a waterfall!! Hot Stone massage took the Portland chill right out of my bones. I'm from Maui and I'd rather go to Kanani Pearl in Portland than the Grand Wailea. Plus, now I've found a place to get my Epicurn products.
What a treat! – I have to agree with the last reviewer; Kanani Pearl is definitely a welcome oasis in our often cloudy city. Stepping in and hearing the water trickling down the walls immediately transported me to a state of complete relaxation. Then, Christine escorted me to my treatment room, complete with flickering candles and soothing musicperfect to ease my tension. My hour-long facial for sensitive skin was just what the doctor ordered (well, really my husband). The combination of aromatic cleansers and lotions, Chris... read more
Hot stone therapy to die for – Looks like the last reviewer isn't much of a TRUE spa enthusiast. My treatment was the best I've found to date in Portland. And the Hawaiian theme is a welcome escape in (usually) dreary Portland. I know I'm headed back time and time again. I love hearing "Aloha"
Big Hat No Cattle – I went to Kanani Pearl because it was new and looked beautiful from the outside. Another spa with tiny rooms, and no real service. I was lead to the "sanctuary" which is across from a laundry room and had to figure out how to get my own drink. Then a got on a massage table that I have no idea how the therapist moved around the massage table. Finally, no one offered me a shower or a bathroom. I passed a shower on the way out - looks cool - but I wouldn't know...never got to shower. Horrible massage. I coul... read more
