Growing up in what use to be, one of the busiest fishing ports on the east coast, Galilee, in Narragansett Rhode Island, I know good seafood. Jay's was excellent. The steamers (not sandy and just the right size), pan seared scallops and lobster were especially good. Very casual atmosphere on the water front. The service was good as well. It was our first visit, we will return again.
Great little find on our vacation. My husband had oysters and said they were among the best he had ever had. The lobster dinner was great too. The lobster was amazing, but the clams were gritty. But the wine left a lot to be desired. The staff were friendly and efficient, would definitely return if we make it to Portland again.
I give them a five for the oysters. Best I’ve ever tasted. The rest of the menu just okay.
We were in maine for 1 night..we arrived late and j's was the only place open for dinner around 9 pm .tge food was delicious and very friendly staff ..
We Absolutely Loved the Food. The View. The staff. The other patrons. Oysters. Shrimp. Drinks. Everything about this place.
J's oyster is such a fun place..love the ladies behind the bar..best steamers..to the rude customers who dine at J's..if you can't be nice to the people who are working hard to take care of you and others..find someplace else to eat..in another State.
