Ive gone here so often and its always amazing. The food is great, the vibes are great. Genuinely one of my favorite food spots in ames.
My wife was craving egg drop soup while we were visiting our daughter in Ames on Sept 30th. I walked in about 25 minutes before closing time and ordered a large egg drop soup. We got home and my wife took a few bites and asked me to taste the soup but didn't tell me why. This was the worst egg drop soup or any soup for that matter that I have ever eaten. What a disappointing experience! The Mapo Tofu which was highly recommended was just a bunch of tofu, some bacon bits thrown in a generic sauce and sprinkled with unseasoned raw chilli powder. The whole thing reeked of unseasoned chilli powder. I could make a better dish in a microwave with some tofu, some generic sauce and raw chilli powder. Worst food I have had in Ames so far. The Mongolian beef was passable. And the crab rangoon (which again got rave reviews) is a bait-and-switch. Had no crab in it whatsoever, just some ... read more
