Good doctor who is helpful and knowledgeable; however the office staff in La Jolla are unprofessional and under trained. Office personnel refused to schedule an appointment, so I can't get my prescriptions refilled. They don't understand how insurance works and have unnecessary red tape to mask their lack of knowledge. They should have just apologized and listened while I finished sentences rather than interrupt repeatedly. After seeing him for years, I will look elsewhere since he can't be reached for scheduling.

Did this psychiatrist have reasonable prices? Absolutely! Did this psychiatrist ever take personal phone calls while in the appointment room with you? They would never do that! Their full attention is always on me. Does this psychiatrist always take that extra step to make you feel special? Absolutely, they always make me feel like I'm their only client. Odd to have a review draft made up for me. I think Dr. Mawhinney is a fine doctor for my needs, and is the same office with my therapist so that's a definite plus. He's a bit old school, but still listens and makes recommendations based on what you tell him about your history and needs. Much better to go to him or any good psychiatrist than trying to rely on your GP doctor for psychiatric medications.

Does this psychiatrist promptly return your phone calls? Definitely! They always call me back very quickly! Did you feel safe in this psychiatrist's care? Absolutely! I knew I was being cared for by an expert! Do you feel that you could have received better service somewhere else? Definitely not; I received the best service ever! Was this psychiatrist's office clean? Yes everything was neat and sterile Did you leave the office feeling satisfied with your visit? Completely!

Has this psychiatrist ever cancelled your appointment on you last minute? Never, they are very reliable. Does this provider treat their staff well? Very! I've never seen an employer treat their staff better Do you feel that you could have received better service somewhere else? No, I don't think so Did you have to wait long after you arrived for your appointment? No, they were ready for me right after I arrived Does this psychiatrist always take that extra step to make you feel special? Yes, I always enjoy my appointments

Yes, they went above and beyond Was this provider's office easy to locate? Fairly Easy Are you going to visit this provider again? Without a doubt! Dr. Mawhinney was voted best psychiatrist in San Diego. He is awesome! I have a complicated medical history and a previous drug addiction so we have to be careful of my meds. He is extremely knowledgable about addictions and eating disorders as well as helped me get stable on my meds and I have been doing well for over two years now. Thanks, Dr. Mawhinney!!

This Dr is the worst professional I have ever worked with in my entire life. Do not go to him. He has caused our son all kinds of emotional problems and mis-diagnosed him and gave him meds that left him in the hospital. He is arrogant, doesn't listen, doesn't care and just wants his check. Just because he has the qualifications doesn't mean he is capable of making good choices for you. Keep away from this doctor.
