No fighting, girls...there's enough of Gabriel's genius to go around – Some may think of us pretty young things as overindulged, overpampered, and sometimes overwrought young women just want to join Junior League. Let me demonstrate how the true New York younger set knows how to share. I discovered the hair genius named Gabriel sometime ago. But back then, I was young, selfish and naive. All my friends would be dying to know who cut my hair. But I wouldn't give up the name. With each visit, Gabriel created a cut that was tot... read more
I'm in love... with my hair stylist – I cannot begin to tell you the number of bad to horrible hair disasters I have had. With each new and revolutionary way of cutting, I have suffered at the hands and scissors of so-called experts. I gave up and just let my hair grow out. A friend told me about a remarkably calm and unaffected stylist at Sahag. I marveled at my friend's new hair style-it was chic, sleek and truly brought out her fabulous features. Although I had sworn off another cut, her new hair style looked so good and ... read more
A True Scissor Wizard – I have lived in NYC all my life and only when I was a teenager did I have a hairdresser that I adored. Here I am in my late thirties and have finally found my true scissor soul mate. I read about Gabriel here on Citysearch and after looking at the Sahag website, decided to give him a try. I don't think that I have had any unique hairstyle for the last decade but thanks to him, now I do. He asked me what I wanted, he told me what he thought would be best and here I am new and improved. It was actually ... read more
Great Service, Friendly Staff, Nice Decor – Went there yesterday for a cut with Gabriel. I was treated nicely by all the staff. His asst. Leonedis took me for my wash and dry and then I was directed to his chair for my cut. Gabriel has been there for 8 years and he was terrific. He took time, explained what and why he was doing. He never rushed or let me feel as though I wasnt very important. He was a master at cutting and even though his cuts are $175, he is worth every $. It can be true you get what you pay for in life. I ... read more
I love Carmela! – Carmela gives me the hottest haircut. She changed my mind about bangs - I used to be very weary of them, but I've been sporting them ever since... and all the guys are after me now! She gives the best advice & she is my fashion muse. Very inspiring and warm.
the best cut and color anywhere in the city – Daniel not only made my hair a gorgeous combination of wheat and sandy blonde, but his cut has made me a new woman! (I know that sounds ridiculous, but it's true.) I wouldn't consider going anywhere else in Manhattan from now on. Watching the other stylists do their magic as well was a treat.
Karmella is the end all be all for a hair cut. She is AMAZING! I have been going to her for a few years now and have converted many of my out of town friends to coming all the way to NYC to go to her. $150 is a lot for a hair cut, but you get what you pay for. Def give it a try.
The celebrity stylist's dry-cut vision endures at his legacy salon. – In Short John Sahag, the hair pioneer behind the acclaimed dry-cutting technique, has left his unique brand of hip cuts and the salon where it all happened in the hands of his trusted stylists. The staff is laid-back and casual, even though they cater to high-end clients including Brad Pitt and Drew Barrymore. Bamboo-mounted cutting stations, serene fountains and funky flowers make the modern, earth-toned space feel like a forest sanctuary.
All about the color – With the salon's hair-to-go clips, their chic clear glosses, and sharp cuts using the dry-cut technique I am always delighted with my absolutely suberb treatments. The ambiance is extremely comforting and tranquil, almost spiritual even with its bamboo and elegant earthly decor. Santino, the head of color is the most attentive colorist, explaining every aspect of the process thoroughly, and he's always quite witty. Carmela, the head stylist is brilliant, creative and cares genuinely about each cut. Afte... read more
