An old, old standby in Monterey, this eatery serves up world-class steaks and seafood in an airy, colorful environment that is casual and cozy. Alive with the ebullient chatter of customers, the restaurant will delight you with its wood-fired California swordfish and its brace of fresh large quail. Great selection of beef and wine. Steaks well-prepared. Love their wine selection. The bar pours generously. Great service.

One of the things we miss about moving to Montana was our evenings at Whaling Station. For the years we lived there, it was always one of three spots we considered for good friends and family. Steaks were perfectly prepared, big beefy flavor and the same attention was given to side dishes. Waitstaff was among the top on the bay. Knowledgeable, friendly and quite often, very entertaining. Local regular or valued tourist, good service, great steaks and beautiful Swordfish! Miss you guy!!!!!!!

Very disappointing. Phenomenal service and staff but this place wouldn't last a month in a beef city like Kansas City or Chicago. We sent 2 of 3 steaks back. The ribeye was paper-thin which is almost impossible to get medium-rare. Poor prep and they didn't comp even a dessert. Wine was good though. We won't be back. Way too expensive for Applebee's quality.
