Voted Most Honest Mechanic he's the best. voted "most honest mechanic" by the LA Weekly in 1999. and he is. our last mechanic never cost us less than $250 - every single time - whether this repair was the same as the last repair we had done a month ago (and still should be under warrantee) or seemed simple and quick, it was a minimum of $250. after many visits to jim, i'm just now getting a bill for that amount and i'm glad to pay it. when i took my clunker in last month for a stuck gas pedal (yikes!) he didn't charge us any... read more
Jim Matson Automotive is Overrated This guy is busy enough with his regulars not to care how he treats new customers. I spent over $500 in one visit and left with the same problem I went in with. He put my estimate on a post-it note, not on official company letterhead, which was about the 3rd red flag I ignored. If you can wait for your car, I would suggest you do so. I love my mechanic! Jim is the best mechanic in Los Angeles, and possibly in the world. He is absolutely lives up to his reputation as LA's "Most Honest Mechanic." Not only does he undercharge for many services, but he performs them quickly and perfectly. If he knows you're under financial constraints, he always gives you several options, a cheaper (and often more short-term) and a more expensive (but more long-term) one. A truly HONEST mechanic It is rare to find a mechanic who will tell you what really needs to be done, how to do it, and how much it'll cost you. Matson has serviced my family's cars for almost 4 years and has given us amazing pricing, and quick reliable service. Easy to talk to and understand (for those who aren't car savvy), Jim is personable and knows how to keep his customers coming back. There isn't another mechanic who will charge you less for such great service.
honest, efficient, and nice I brought my car in thinking it had leaking seals and was on the verge of death. Jim's guys saw me immediately and fixed the problem in about 40 minutes by draining the excess oil that a crappy EZ Lube place had put in. Jim was polite, honest, efficient, and explained and showed me the problems without talking down to me. Charged me $17.50. Really a fantastic experience at a mechanic.
