About this business

Open since 1975, this Austin establishment has been a mainstay on the fine dining scene ever since. The complimentary valet service, charming Clarksville neighborhood setting, and exquisite cuisine prepared by expert chef Larry McGuire has this place constantly buzzing with activity. The imaginative menu will have your mouth watering as you try to decide between a bone-in New York strip steak or Akaushi ribeye and whether or not you want to top it with garlic confit and rosemary butter or béarnaise sauce. An upscale eatery frequented by VIPs for its rotating menu of inventive and sophisticated New American cuisine. – In Short A dim, cozy and clubby interior houses an upscale clientele. Regular patrons are greeted at the door by name by the friendly, efficiently unobtrusive staff. On any given night, you might dine a few tables over from Geena Davis, Henry Kissinger or George W. Bush. Starters include sesame-mushroom crepes and crispy oysters on yucca-root chips with habanero-honey aioli. There's also tender veal osso buco and... read more

Simply the best in Austin. – I love this place. Although it is not a place I can frequent often, when I do it is always a stellar experience. The oysters are always a good place to start. Ive tried many of the salads and am never disappointed. For you entree the Duck and Shrimp never disappoints. I also suggest the steak with its rich reduction. As for the service, you cant get any better in Austin. Now that they offer a bistro (less expensive, smaller portions) menu your occasion does not have to be that special in order to... read more

Excellent experience – We went on the spur-of-the-moment and weren't exactly dressed for it. But this being Austin... We got a nice table for 2. Johnny was our waiter. Excellent. Even with his newly-found stardom after being on the cover of the Chronicle, he was still all laughs and a good time. Wine selection was great. We had a nice Cakebread. We split an appetizer of soft-shell crabs. They were very good. I had the ribeye for an entreé. I asked for "medium-rare, closer to rare." It was prepared exactly the way I wanted it... read more

Not what I expected – My husband and I went to Jeffreys for Valentines Day. Well, we went a few days early. The wine list was good. We had quail for an appetizer, which was very tasy. The entrees were limited and just average. My husband got the lamb shank and I got the beef tenderloin. The service was great and let us even substitute sides. The meal however, was just average. I was not impressed. The dessert however, was great! We got the frommage trio. YUM! It was ricotta gelato, strawberrt shortcake and cheesecake. They w... read more

A "pretend" restaurant – Sorry Jeffrey's, I like good food, a nice atmosphere and reasonable prices. None of which you offer.

Disappointing – I had heard such good things about this restaurant; so, it is with a disappointed stomach that I review this restaurant. It took them 25 minutes to get bread and drinks to our table (excluding water). The chef(s), in my opinion, was trying to use too many "hip" items in the food and forgot that not everything tastes good together. We tried all the appetizers; we only liked one or two. The wine list *is* very good. The desserts...I would have rather stopped at DQ or the likes. Overall: It was slightly above av... read more

Romantic, high-end date material – I went to Jeffrey's once about 7 years ago on a date, & it has stuck in my mind as a place I want to return to. Bring your pocketbook! Expensive but worth every penny! Valet parking, 5 star service and food; I can't say enough great things about this restaurant. If you want a true fine dining experience, go to Jeffrey's.

Not Worth It – I recently went to Jeffrey's for my birthday after many years. Overall, I left thinking "This was not that great." My scallop appetizer had only three small scallops and they were not very favorful. The quail salad was tasty. I found I had trouble finding something on the menu I really wanted. The Chocolate Intemperance was a real disappointment. Remember it as a flour-less cake with bits of chocolate in it. What they have now is closer to pudding. Service was too fussy.

Wonderful! – My boyfriend and I went here for the first time yesterday and everything was absolutely wonderful! Between the two of us we tried the oyster chips, lobster bisque, duck, beef tenderloin, and chocolate intemperance, and I would recommend all of them. I definately hope to go back.
