It’s not uncommon for people to wait one to two hours past their appointment time. This is happening to me right now: appointment at 1:20, current time 2:00 and I’m told there are at least two people ahead of me, so at least another 30 minutes late. This happens nearly every time I come here. Plus, last visit I was told they don’t keep bandaging supplies on hand, so after the nurse peeled off theBandage covering my hip replacement incision, she couldn’t rebandage it. Not happy with the healthcare provided. Comments like “too busy”, “I have spent too much time with that” “ Eat chocolate cake and you might be a diabetic next time and you won’t have to worry about it”, “you are here for an annual physical”(after I waited 1.5hours and they called me by the wrong name but corrected…I was there to follow up on some tests) . This used to be a very good office that listened and helped. Now it is about appointments and labs. They just want to be a medical billing machine...no longer about patient care. Finding a new doctor!
What sets Dr Jeanne Birkenhauer apart from many busy physicians is her genuine honesty and compassion. She takes all the time needed and I never feel rushed through. A thank you also to the rest of the team.

Dr. Birkenhauer and her staff of Nurses, Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants are remarkable! They work together, meaning I don’t always see Dr. B when I go in, but sometimes the professional I am seeing consults with her on the spot. Dr. B asks the right questions at well-checks, and when there are illnesses not resolving to her (and my) satisfaction. If I am evasive, or make excuses, she persists, to my benefit. Excellent first visit. Came to see her because 2 people I know spoke highly of her and my physician was leaving the area. My First impression is she listens to you, answers questions and makes suggestions and referrals if needed and recommends tests or xrays or scans if needed. Seems experienced and a calm demeanor which I love. I am glad I chose to let her be my md. Time will tell but I give her a 5 star rating for today!
I have been seeing Dr. Birkenhauer and her Nurse Practitioners since moving to Gulf Shores 2 years ago (2018). During that time, I have been treated with the utmost respect and care. Dr. B and her staff listen to their patients and will give you the time and attention you deserve as a patient. My healthcare concerns have always been taken seriously and dealt with quickly. It is very rare to find Medical Practitioners of this caliber!
