I walked into Dr. Dutro's office pain free to have two crowns put on two large molars with prep time being about 45 min. I have since been told by two other dentists that each molar should have been done separately since the jaw being stretched that long has caused a bad case of TMJ. I was in tremendous pain when I left the office with my temp crown. I made 5 visits to the office in the two week period while waiting for the permanent crowns, always complaining of extreme pain. Inexperienced assistant put on an ill-fitting temporary crown, which caused a severe infection. Dr. Dutro did not diagnose this, even though I complained several times of pain,and put on permanent crown. I incurred much pain and needed four rounds of antibiotics. Another dentist finally diagnosed the infection and I had to have a root canal. My concern was that this incompetent assistant was allowed to do a procedure as important as making and fitting a crown. She clearly did not know what she was doing and was permitted to ... read more
Dr. Dutro was polite and efficient. However, he seems more interested in money than the patients overall experience. Apparently this clinic does not except my secondary insurance and did not bother to inform me prior to a procedure and now I'm out the cost. The filling was not done correctly and I had to go to a different dentist to have the "bite" corrected.
I am new to the area and chose this dentist due to the reviews. I am pleased I did. I received a cleaning and had two cavities filled. I am terrified of needles however the dentist and the hygienist were very nice and relaxing. We talked throughout the whole procedure...well they talked to me and I nodded as best I could given the circumstances. It was as if I had been their patient for years. Jim and his staff exceed expectations. I have had some major work done and I am very satisfied with his practice. I lived in Gresham for college and Portland and I still always make the trip to Hillsboro. It's worth it. At 31 years of age I expect to see Jim for many more years. He will always take a patient call on a weekend and see you if it is an emergency without making you feel like you are an inconvenience. An A+ dentist that has A+ staff!
Fabulous! Even makes my kids feel comfortable in his office and that's hard to do, especially with an emotionally and behaviorally disabled child.
Very good dentist. Really knows his stuff. Most of my extended family and even some of their in-laws all go to Doctor Dutro. One older relative was very nervous about finding a new dentist after many bad (and painful) experiences. Now she willingly drives 45 miles to visit Dr. Dutro. His knowledge of medical science (over and above dentistry) helped save my father-in-law's life! Drawbacks: Doesn't usually see children. Very selective about which dental insurance policies he accepts.
Dr. Dutro has provided dental care for myself, my spouse, and my three children for over 13 years. Every single procedure we have had done has been a complete success. Dr. Dutro is thorough, thoughtful, and very accomplished and skilled.
Jim is a great dentist! I am in my 20's and have moved all over the Portland Metro area. I will always make the drive to his Cornell office for complete and through work done on my teeth. I had some serious work done and he called personally to follow up on me. It says something when your dentist sends you a get-well card and sugar cookies :) ...(Even if the staff is responsible for the cookies!)
