History The Jaarsma Bakery in Pella, Iowa has been offering delicious "Dutch Treats" since 1889, when it was founded by Harmon Jaarsma who used recipes he brought over as an immigrant from Holland. A hundred years ago, Harmon had two brick ovens in the bakery that were fired with wood. After the ashes were brushed out, the bread was put in to bake, followed by the buns, Dutch Letters, cookies, and finally rusks as the ovens slowly cooled down before re-firing. Huge selection and helpful, friendly service. Wonderful Dutch specialties.
The Jaarsma bakery is the best bakery! They have so many delicious treats that are all so incredibly fresh! When we visit our grandparents there in Iowa we always go out of our way to stop in Pella. You can get your treats then walk over to the square and eat in a beautiful setting. The Dutch letters are out of this world! It's a place you must stop!
Food is awesome!!!!!! Price is just right for how much you get too!!!

We travel to Iowa when we can to see relatives. One of our stops is to this bakery in Pella. Best pastry anywhere.
Smells wonderful. Looks clean. Friendly staff. Anything made with dough is to die for.
