History The Jaarsma Bakery in Pella, Iowa has been offering delicious "Dutch Treats" since 1889, when it was founded by Harmon Jaarsma who used recipes he brought over as an immigrant from Holland. A hundred years ago, Harmon had two brick ovens in the bakery that were fired with wood. After the ashes were brushed out, the bread was put in to bake, followed by the buns, Dutch Letters, cookies, and finally rusks as the ovens slowly cooled down before re-firing. My aunt Adeline used to take me here every year when my mom and I visited her from Illinois. Absolutely love the Dutch letters and so much more! Glad to see your still there!
These people are always nice to me, even when they're busy. We sometimes drive the 45 minutes to Pella, specifically to visit Jaarsma. It's common for us to pick up orders for several friends and family members each time we go. Their web site is also quite convenient, but then I don't get to see my loved one's excitement when I drop off their goodies.

Best bakery and friendliest staff ever! Hope I have another chance to visit this unique town and bakery someday. Until then, I will just order from Texas! Must try the Dutch Letters!!!
